241,
Stout raised the question of whether or not the Mayor had appointed a committee to act on this matter of
sales tax. Councilman Granger amended the motion to turn this matter over to Mayor Royer to set for a
meeting as he deems necessary, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried.
CLAIM, P. T. & T. COMPANY IN THE AMOUNT OF $600 TO COVER DAMAGE TO UNDERGROUND CABLE ON BEECH STREET. The Clerk
read the following letter submitted by the Telephone Company which reads as follows:
On June 26j, 1956, at approximately 1:50 P. M., this Company's 1200 -pair 26 gauge underground
cable was severed by a rigger bulldozer, Equipment No. E6L, operated by George Perry, and
owned by Bauman Brothers. Bauman Brothers were removing two trees on the north side of
Beech Street for the City of Redwood City.
Since we do not have knowledge of the provisions of the contract between the City and the
contractors as far as liability for such damage is concerned, and in order to afford
necessary protection for this Company, we are filing averified claim to cover the
estimated cost of repairs.
If you are covered by insurance for matters of this kinds please advise number of your
policy and name and address of your insurance company and we shall deal directly with them
relative to the payment for this damage.
Councilman Spillers moved that the claim be denied and referred to our insurance carrier, seconded by
Councilman Herkner. Councilman Granger asked that they answer the letter. This was included in the motion
which carried.
Councilman Herkner stated that there was quite a bit to this that did not meet the eye and he stated that
they should check into this matter before any funds were paid directly or indirectly.
G. SCHIFRIN REGARDING POSSIBLE PURCHASE OF SMALL PARCEL ON HESS ROAD ADJOINING HIS PROPERTY. SKETCH ATTACHED.
Acting Mayor Britschgi referred this to the Real Estate Committee.
(u
{ 't
t 1
Af t moi`
t-
