REPORT ON BIDS FOR TAX ACCOUNTING MACHINE AND FOR THE BUDETARY ACCOUNTING MACHINE. The following bids <br />were received for a tax accounting machine: <br />National Cash Register Company $4,794.00 <br />Burroughs Corporation 4,400.59 <br />The following bids were received for the replacement of the budgetary Accounting Machiner <br />National Cash Register Company $6,831.90 <br />Remington Rand 5,635.b6 <br />Burroughs Corporation 3#634.59 <br />The City Manager and the City Auditor recommend the low bids of the Burroughs Corporation for both the mod <br />Tax Accounting and Budgetary Accounting Machines be accepted. Councilman Stout movedapproval of the <br />recommendation, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />REPORT ON BIDS FOR AIR COMPRESSOR, STREET DEPARTMENT. The City Manager asked that this be held over for one 04 <br />week. Councilman Stout moved to carry this on the agenda for one week, seconded by Councilman Spillers ..r <br />and carried. <br />REPORT ON BIDS FOR BRANCH LIBRARY. The City Attorney stated that the bids should be checked. The Clerk <br />read the bids which were as follows: <br />Stephen Pacific $46,666 <br />Arthur Bros. 44,412 <br />Ray L. Spaulding 40,472 <br />The low bid, $40,472, plus architect's fee of $2,428.32 (6%), would make a total cost of $429900.32. <br />Councilman Stout mo ed, seconded by Councilman Spillers, that the low bid of Ray L. Spaulding be accepted. <br />The motion carried. <br />ACCEPTANCE OF IMPROVEMENT IN POPLAR HESS—EBENER. The City Engineer, in his letter, stated that improvements <br />in the Poplar—Hess—Ebener project have been satisfactorily completed by the contractor. He recommended <br />that this project be accepted subject to correction of any defects in materials and workmanship which <br />might appear within one year from date of acceptance, and subject to correction of any work required <br />by the City Council after the public hearing on this project. Councilman Spillers moved approval of <br />the City Engineerts recommendation, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION. The Clerk read the letter wherein they asked for permission <br />to conduct a house to house march during the last week of November. Councilman Spillers moved approval <br />of the request, seconded by Councilman Weiss. Councilman Granger stated that at one time the Council has <br />decided that they would refer these meters to the Community Chest and if they did not object to the <br />campaign then the Council would go along with the request. He was of the opinion that all campaigns <br />were supposed to be grouped under the United Crusade campaign. This was followed by discussion. <br />Councilman Spillers withdrew his motion and then moved that this be referred to the City Manager for a <br />report back in one week with the thought in mind of checking this matter with the United Crusade, <br />seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDS REZONING OF A PORTION OF LOT 19, BLOCK 24, STERLING HIGHLANDS N0. 1 FROM <br />AN ft -1 DISTRICT TO AN R-4 DISTRICT. The Mayor stated that this will have to be set for a public <br />hearing. Councilman Spillers moved to set this matter for a public hearing in two weeks, Octibber 15, <br />seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. <br />CITY ATTORNEY REPORT ON MARSHALL STREET IMPROVEMENTS. Mro, Co Be Currie stated that everything was in order, on" <br />however they requested the Council to ask the P. G. & E. and the P. T. & T. to put in underground %mod <br />utilities on Marshall Street from Walnut Street to Jefferson Avenue. City Engineer Jain recommended <br />that this be authorized by the Council. Councilman Spillers moved approval of the City Engineer's <br />recommendation., seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br />The City Attorney reported that $4,500 of the gas tax funds was set aside for this work, however, the <br />bids were in excess of the estimate. A meeting was held last week with Water Superintendent Winter <br />
