Councilman Spillerws motion <br />lost for lack of a second. <br />DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS REQUEST CANCELLATION OF TAXES ON A PARCEL CONTAINING 2.196 ACRES, MORE OR LESSS FOR <br />THE PURPOSE OF A FREEWAY. Councilman Spillers moved approval of the c ancelation as requested# second- <br />ed by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM JAMES G. NICHOLAS, 68 ELWOC® STREET., REQUESTING PERMIT TO HAVE THE REMAINING 90 FENT <br />PAVED IN THE PARKING AREA AT 3115-3119 BROADWAY. The City Engineer stated in his letter that the <br />property owners on Broadway adjacent to this property have filled in the parkway area with concrete <br />without a permit from the City. It has been the policy of the City in the past to permit only paving <br />of parkways in front of public or semi-public buildings., and in industrial and commercial area. <br />This is a residential areas and the parkway is over four feet in width$ which allows sufficient room <br />for tree planting and landscaping. As in the pasts he does not recommend that any parkways in <br />residential areas be paved or concreteds in'order to eliminate the appearance of a cowrwmercial area. <br />This was followed by discussion as to the Zoning. Councilman Spillers moved that the permit be granted. <br />This was followed by further discussion after which Councilman Spillers added to his motion that <br />suitable space he allowed for the planting of trees. Councilman Britschgi asked that they include <br />in the motion that the property owner will have to assume responsibility if this has to be torn up for <br />.emergency utility repairs or services. This was included in the motion which Councilman Britschgi <br />seconded. Councilman Granger stated that this should be made in agreement form. This was also <br />included in the motion which carried. <br />RENEWAL CF USED AUTOMOBILE PERMIT, CLARKSON MOTORS., 155 El Camino Reals R. C., Councilman Britschig <br />moved that the permit be granteds seconded by Councilman Spillers. This was followed by discussion <br />after which City Collector Perrin recommended that the permit be allowed as this was a routine proce- <br />dure. The Mayor asked that in the future that the City Manager check into these permits and make <br />a report. This w as again followed by discussion after which the motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION TO HAVE SPRUCE STREETS OR AN ALTERNATE., CONNECT FROM FIVE POINTS TO BAYSHORE FREEWAY. City <br />Attorney Costello read the resolution at the request of Councilman Weiss.
