work with the Port Commission Committee to work out the mechanics to the welfare of the Ports seconded
by Councilman Britschgi, Councilman Herkner amended and added to the motion that the Council accept
the letter with thanks and that a Committee be appointed and the basis for the Qrganizations, as stated
in the letter, be expanded to include other organizations. Councilman Granger stated that rather then
make an amendment he would add this to his motion. Councilman Herkner then with drew his amendment.
This was followed by discussion and Councilman Granger stated that this motion was not as stated and 09
he did not want the motion to be expanded to include other organizations. This was followed by further .ow
discussion in regard to who should be included on the Committee. -Councilman Granger stated that his
motion includes the suggestion of Councilman Herkner without the statement of the expansion. The
motion carried on roll call with Councilmen Stout and Weiss voting No.
0"
The Mayor appointed Councilmen Herkner and Granger to work with the Port Committee on this matter.
O
The Mayor announced that San Carlos voted not to haul dirt through their City. Brooks Furniture Company
submitted a letter objecting to the hauling of dirt on Whipple Avenue.
The Clerk read a letter from Stanley and Rachael Horne, 1645 James Avenue, wherein they asked for an
extension of 30 days to construct a sidewalk in front of their property. Councilman Granger moved
approval of 'the request, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried.
The Mayor stated that there were several people from Hilltop in the audience and he asked the -City Engineer
if he had anything further to report. Mr. Jain stated that they have done everything possible to meet
all the requirements. Mrs. Fitzpatrick objected to the street work because the street does not meet
her driveway. She wanted to know what the Council thinks she should do about he driveway because
she can not use it as it now exists. City Engineer Jain stated that the Steet was going along accord -
in to plans and all they did was to widen the street. They have done everything to meet all the
driveways and in all instances they have tried to meet the requirements of the low side of the street. X"
He stated that they can not put in street improvements in the hills without leaving one side of the 0004
street with the driveways high and the other side low because the driveways were put in before the
street work was done. In most cases where this happens, the people put their driveways in to meet the
middle.of the street and then when the street is widened they are left with their driveways either
way up in the air or way down below the grade of the street. This was followed by a very lengthy
discussion. The Mayor requested that the City Engineer help the people in very way he can with regard
to their driveways. Mr. Jain stated that for the record he wanted the Council to know that the
Council should take into consideration the problem of.the hill situation in regard to future streets.
City Engineer Jain reported good progress in regard to the Farm Hill. Sewer situation. 45% of the pipe is
in the ground.
Councilman Stout moved that the City Attorney be authorized to draw up the necessary resolution congrat-
ulating the Centennial Committee for -their work, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried.
Councilman Granger stated that the people on Main Street want to know what the Council was doing in woo
regard to the deed from the Arguello estate. He asked for a report in two weeks from the City
Attorney in regard to this matter.
Councilman Weiss congratulated the City Engineer and Department Heads for their work in regard to the
maintenance work and Captial projects.
City Manager Rolison asked the Council if they wanted to declare a procalmation establishing November alai
6th a holiday. This had been inadvertently left out of the holiday schedule. Councilman Granger,
to keep the record clear, moved that the Mayor proclaim November 6th a holiday. Councilman Herkner
asked what other cities held this as a City holiday. He was informed that the majority do, Palo
Alto does not. The motion was seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried.
