Mayor Herkner add$d to the Council's appreciation to the Street, Fire, Police and Park Departments for their work during the storms City Engineer Jain stated that all the public works departments should be included. The Mayor stated that he was sorry he had overlooked the Water Department as he certainly knew how had they bad worked. Mayor Herkner referred to the matter which Councilman Jones brought up in regard to creek covering from Middlefield Road to Main Street Bridgee He asked that the City Manager look into the matter of covering -of the creeks between Middlefield Road and the railroad track, and he is also to contact the property owners and negoteate with tem as to the cost of covering the creek on their property. City Manager rolison stated that the fore- most problem is the financing of this program* The Mayor announced a study meeting for Wednesday at 8:00 P.M.. INTRODUCE ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING POSITION OF ASSISTANT TO CITY MANAGER. No change has been made in the pay scale as the title "Assistant to the City Manager" is merely.being.substituted in lieu of the designation "Administrative Assistant" with the pay remaining -the same, $519.00 per month. This was followed by dis- cussion in regard to salary, range and a fixed salary* Councilman Granger introduce ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 741 relating to the salary plan for employees of the City of Redwood City, to establish the position of Assistant to the City Manager and to delete therefrom the office of Administrative Assistant, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried on roll call, Councilman Britschgi voting NO. APPLICATION TERRENCE HEAVEY CO. TO CONDUCT 3 DAY AUCTION, GENERAL FURNITURE COMPANY, 1550 El CAMINO REAL. In his letter Mr. Heavey stated that his firm had been asked to conduct a three-day auction for General Furniture Company, January 5, 6 and 7,,1956. Their firm is quitting business and mast vacate by January 15, 1956. He further stated that his previous auction license expired July 1, 1955. He enclosed a renewal fee of $50.00 per instructions and a $5,000 bond. The inventory would be turned in in approximately six days* Councilman Britschgi stated that this was the same place that had asked for a "close out sale" just prior to the Christmas Season* Councilman Granger reiterated the problem and situation as it appeared at the last Councilmeeting. This was followed by discussion. City Attorney Currie clarified the ordinance -in regard to this situation wherein Mr. Heavey had conducted an auction in the City before and was renewing his license. However, because of the wording of the ordinance the owners of the store will have to file an application with the Council. They in turn can hire Mr. Heavey to conduct the auction for them as he will have a city license. Mr. Heavey will have to pay an additional fee of $25.00 a day to conduct the sale. Councilman Royer moved that the City Manager notify applicant that he can not .conduct the sale until he complies with
