The following letter was
read by the Clerk:
The request of the City Council of Redwood City fora reappraisal of the recreation
services is of interest to us* The need for a reappraisal of plans for land acquisition
and facility development is apparent in view of the population increases cited in the
letter from R. S. Dodge, City Clerk, received January 26th. Thank you for your
generous comments on oar previous appraisal.
The Commission's policy on appraisals of established year-round recreation services has
changed since we rendered our appraisal in 1951. The limited number of formal studies
possible for us to conduct each years are now being confined to plans of development
in communities which do not have an established reereation commission, department and WNW
services.
However, we would like to suggest a new method of work and assistance to Redwood City.
Iit:April of this years the Commission will publish a "Guide for Planning Recreation -
Park Areas and Facilities". This publication is the resilt of a years' research
conducted by the California Committee on Planning for Recreation and Park Areas and
Facilities* This guide should be useful to both the Planning Commlissi6n and the
Recreation and Park Coomaission in Redwood City in establishing their own space standards
for recreation -park purposes.
We suggest that a series of meetings be held by one or,both of these commission, to
which a recreation specialist on our staff would be invited. A study of the guild
and application of its suggested standards to the land areas and pupulation needs of
Redwood City would be carried on jointly by your city officials, administrators of the
recreation department, the park department and our staff member*
Please advise us whether this method of assistance meets with you approval.
_ __._._.. __ _YAllilu1111eui-IInym-•u;i il+iiliwk' _ I ___ .. _.
