He further stated that it was his under- <br />standing that the property owners prefer to pay cash for these improvements, the machanics of which can <br />be worked out by the City Attorney's office. Councilman Royer moved that the City Engineer be authorized <br />to dray up the plans and specsp seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. <br />CITY ENGINEER LETTER REGARDING RESURFACING STREETS AROUND HALL OF JUSTICE AND VICINITY. The City Engineer <br />recommended that the City Manager be authorized to advertise for bids for the resurfacing of streets <br />around the new Hall of Justice Building as follows: .r.� <br />Marshall Street between Winslow and Hamilton, Winslow Street between Marshall Street and Bradford <br />Street, Hamilton Street between Marshall Street and Bradford Street, and Broadford Street between <br />Winslow Street and Jefferson Avenue. <br />In addition it was recommended that this contract also include the resurfacing of Middlefield <br />Road between Broadway and Theatre Street. It is estimated that this resurfacing will not exceed *"w <br />$10,500 which an be paid from the current Street Maintenance Supplies and Services. Councilman <br />Granger moved that the work be done, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />Councilman Granger wanted to know if this was the time to talk to the County about installing <br />electroliers in the vicinity of the new Hall of Justice. .This was followed by discussion in which <br />City Engineer Jain stated that the sidewalk had already been poured. Councilman Granger moved that <br />someone with authority contact the County about this matter, seconded by Councilman Spillers. <br />This was again followed by discussion and City Manager Rolison stated that the architect had been <br />notified that the County would have to pay for the lighting. Motion carried. <br />CITY ENGINEER LETTER REQUESTING AUTHORITY TO PURCHASE CONCRETE PIPE FOR ADDITIONAL FORCE MAIN UNDER NEW <br />BAYSHORE FREEWAY AT STEINBERGER STREET. In his letter the City Engineer stated that the State Highway <br />Department has requested that the City plan and make provisions for construction of any additional <br />underground facilities to be required under the proposed Bayshore Freeway through Redwood City. It was <br />his recommendation that the City Manager be authorized to advertise for bids for purchase of 300 -feet <br />of 33 -inch reinforced concrete pipe so that this material may be on had and available for installation <br />during the early construction stages of the Bayshore Freeway. This material must be manufactured under <br />special orders and ordered in advance as it requires considerable time for delivery. The estimated <br />cost of this purchase should not exceed 93,000. Councilman Spillers moved approval of the City Engineer's <br />recommendation, seconded by Councilman Jones, City Manager was directed to purchase the necessary pipe, <br />motion carried. <br />COUNTY MANAGER REGARDING PROPOSED CLOSURE OF A PORTION OF EAST FULLER STREET. The Clerk read the following <br />letter: <br />Subject: Proposed Closure of Portion of East Fuller Street <br />This is in further reference to my letter of February 15 to the City Council and your <br />letter of February 21 concerning the County's acquisition of a portion of Block 6. The <br />plat forwarded with m' above referenced letter was.taken from a preliminary title report, <br />the area bounded by heavy black lines depicting a single piece of property on which the <br />report was obtained. It is understandable how this may have led to inquires concerning <br />the County's intent to acquire the other piece of property remaining in Block 6. <br />It: is our understanding that there are two parcels of property in what now constiutes <br />Block 6, and it is the County's intent to acquire both such pieces of property as <br />additional parking area* <br />I am sure the County, will be willing to provide such easements as may be necessary for <br />utility lines and drainage, as such will not in any way interfere with the projected <br />usage of the area* <br />Will you kindly supplement my letter of February 15 with this memorandum in order that <br />your Council may be able to clarify its thinking on this question, <br />Very truly yours, <br />E. R. STALLINGS <br />County Manager <br />City Manager Rolison stated that the County will have to provide the easement and also provide for the <br />drainage. City Engineer Jain stated that he feels the City should retain easemtn rights. Councilman Royer <br />moved that the Council go on record of abandoning the street subject to the acquisition of easembnts, <br />seconded by Councilman Granger. Mayor Herkner wanted to add to the motion that this acquisition will <br />not cost the City any money. This was followed by discussion, however, Mayor Herkner's suggestion was <br />not incliWAd in the motion.
