ordinance would establish the powers and duties of the Commission to establish allocation of the rooms, <br />lockers, and other facilities in the Veterans Memorial Building among the veteran and civic organizations, <br />to recommend to the City Manager the acquisition of additional facilities and equipment and recommend to <br />the City Manager matters pertaining to repair and maintenance and the employment of personnel, if <br />necessary, for car and maintenance of the building. All employees necessary for the operation shall be <br />regular employees of the City of Redwood City. Councilman Spillers offered introduction of ordinance, <br />seconded by Councilman Royer and carried on roll call. <br />CLAIM FOR DAMAGES CAUSED BY FALL ON SEQUOIA HIGH SCHOOL GROUNDS (LAURA B. BAGUSIN). Councilman Spillers <br />moved to derby the claim and refer same to the insurance carrier, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and <br />carried. <br />REPORT ON BID OPENING RECREATION BUILDING LEASE. The City Manager reported that the bid analysis indicated <br />that the low bid was Mr. Budd 0. Stevenson with a total bid of $30080. After crediting all rentals <br />received from the Forty-Niners, if the City purchases the building and leasehold interest from Mr. <br />Stevenson at_>the end of five years, the net cost would be $10,985,- or at the end of ten years, $13080. <br />Councilman Royer moved to reject the building bids and retain the 49er-bid, seconded by Councilman <br />Spillers and carried. Councilman Royer moved that the City Manager be authorized to advertise for <br />bids for construction of building paid on a cash basis, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />Councilman Royer moved that the bid received from the 49ers regarding the lease of the building be <br />continued for two weeks, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />REPORT ON BID OPENING TO IMPROVE GRANDSTAND, HAWES PARK. There was only one bid received and that was from <br />Raymond L. Spalding of Redwood City in the lump sum amount of $11,310. The preliminary engineer's <br />estimate was $10,900 based upon the wall covering material being 1" x 6" sheathing. Before calling for <br />bids it was agreed that the wall covering should be constructed of shiplap or siding, due to excessive <br />shrinkage of cpmmon sheathing. City Engineer Jain recommended that the bid be accepted. The bidder <br />suggested that the outside sheathing be painted immediately upon construction in order to prevent <br />excessive discoloration. This would be desirable, and if funds are available, should be authorized as <br />extra work by negotiation with the contractor. <br />Councilman Spillers moved approval of the City Engineer's recommendations. seconded by Councilman Royer. <br />City Manager Rolison stated that it, was understood that this should be paid from the Community Park <br />Fund. There was a short discussion in regard to the use of stain rather than paint. Motion carried. <br />TRAFFIC FACT FINDING COMMITTEE REC012 ENDATION REGARDING STOP SIGNS ON BREViSTER AVENUE AT INTERSECTION WITH <br />KING STREET AND A STOP SIGN ON KING AT INTERSECTION WITH JAMES A=, UE. A study was made on King Street <br />from Jefferson Avenue to Whipple Avenue. Inasmuch as King Street is one of the routes used by the Fire <br />Department, stop signs have been placed at Harrison, James and Katherine Avenues. It is, therefore, the <br />recommendation of the Traffic Committee to further improve the conditions on King Street and they asked <br />.ow <br />0 <br />0 <br />L..7 <br />a <br />NOR <br />for stop signs to be installed on King Street at each of its intersections with James Avenue and on adw <br />Brewster Avenue at each of its intersections with King Street. Councilman Granger moved to approve <br />the recommendation of the Traffic Committee and offered.Resolution 2007 establishing stop signs as <br />noted above and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Royer. The motion carried on roll call with <br />Councilman Britschgi and Stout voting NO. <br />LETTER FROM C. G. UHLENBERG IN REGARD TO 1.956-57 AUDIT. The Clark read the following letter: <br />Reference is made to our conversation with your city manager who is preparing a 1956-57 <br />preliminary budget, relating to the cost of the audits of the books and records of the <br />City of Redwood for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 1956, and ending June 30, 1957.. <br />We will be pleased to continue our engagement on the same per diem special daily <br />rates and scope as in prior years; that is, we will make three examinations during the <br />year on a continuous audit, basis with written reports as of October 31, 1956, March 31, 1957, <br />and a complete annual report at the close of the fiscal year June 30, 1957. <br />0 <br />
