The following bid was received: <br /> Oddstad homes, total amount X55, 159.11 cashier' s check in the amount <br /> of 100 of the bid ( , 700.00) was attached. <br /> The engineer' s estimate was X51, 810.,50. There were no protests on this public hearing. , <br /> The question was raised in regard to the reason why there was only one bid received. <br /> `.. Attorney Lebsack stated that the bonding companies in San Francisco are not interested <br /> in purchasing bonds on unimproved property, and that is the reason why one bid only <br /> had been received. Councilman wweiss stated that it was odd that there was only one <br /> bid and he was of the opinion that all this would be accomplishing would be to allow <br /> rm Oddstad to have tax exempt bonds. Mr. Wells stated that it was his opinion that it <br /> would be to the benefit of the people in Farm Hills and on McGarvey Street to have it <br /> proceed under the improvement procedure because they now have a contract with a <br /> definite date for the work to be accomplished and completed. Councilman Stout moved <br /> to continue the hearing until 9 o' clock in order to give the City Engineer time to <br /> check the bid, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. <br /> REPORT ON BID OPENING, FIRE DEPARTMENT DRAFTING r'IT. The following bids were received: <br /> Oscar C. Holmes, Inc. , Redwood City c,6, 762.00 <br /> Freeman Paving Company, Palo Alto 8,1i5.00 <br /> Bridges Construction Company, San Jose 8,400.00 <br /> The engineer's preliminary estimage on this project was 44,)1)10.00. The City Engineer <br /> stated that the low bid for this project is considerably higher than it should be for <br /> the amount and type of construction required. It was his recommendation that all bids <br /> r be rejected, and that the City Manager be authorized to negotiate a contract for this <br /> Ls* project. Due to the small quantities involved, it might justify delaying this p ro- <br /> ject until the construction season has slacked off somewhat in order to secure bids <br /> from a more representative and larger group of contractors. This was concurred in by <br /> the City Manager. The City Attorney stated that it would be proper t o negotiate for <br /> a contract. <br /> Councilman Stout offered RESOLUTION 2267 REJECTING ALL BIDS RECEIVED BY THE CITY OF <br /> REDWOOD CITY JUNE 13, 195 7, FOR CONSTRUCTION OF FIR ENGINE DRAFTING PIT; DETERMINING <br /> THAT SAID IORK '1-='_Y BE MORE ECONOMICALLY PERFORMED AN THE MA`TERIALS AND LABOR <br /> PURCHASED AT A LOWER PRICE IN T}Th OPEN MARKET; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO <br /> CAUSE SAID WORK TO BE DON BY THE PURCHASE OF MATERIALS AND LAOE IN THE OPEN MARKET <br /> and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Weiss. Councilman Herkner asked that <br /> �"" they add to the resolution "provided that the cost does not go over the engineer' s <br /> estimate. " The City Attorney stated that that was included in the resolution. Coun- <br /> cilman Stout stated that he did not believe they should bypass the unions.
