Councilman <br /> Stout moved that the Commiti;eets recommendation be approved and referred to the <br /> City Attorney for the necessary resolution, seconded by �ouncilman l�eiss and � <br /> carried. <br /> , <br /> TRAFFI+� COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED ELIMIVATING PARKING ON JEFFERSON AV�TUE FROM ADAMS TO UPTON <br /> STREET BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7:00 TO 9:00 A.M. AND 1}:00 TO 7:00 P.M. THERHBY ALLOWIAIG , <br /> FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC DURING THE PEAK PERIODS. Councilman Stout stated that he did <br /> not know the people were going to take this matter. Police Chief Faulstich stated �� <br /> that the City is either �oing to have to widen the street or do something to eliminate '� <br /> the traffic problem. They think their recommendation is the best plan for the pre- <br /> sent. Z'his was followed b9 discussion in regard to making Jefferson Avenue and <br /> James Avenue into one way streets. Chief Faulstich stated that this proposed change <br /> would not solve the traffie problem because of the fact that there is always the <br /> possibility that there will be one car that will park in the street and thus stop the <br /> ' flow of traffic. There was considerable discussion in regard to public relations and <br /> how it should be handled. Chief Faulstich stated that his men were going to make <br /> ihouse to house contact and talk to the people. There was also discu�sion in regard <br /> I to budget expenditure of approximately �1, 800 and the length of time it would take <br /> to get the signs and have them installed. ' <br /> ' Councilman Stout suggested that they hold this up and carry it on the agenda for two �"'"� <br /> � <br /> weeks and possiblg hold a public hearing on this matter. Councilman Granger stated �� <br /> that there was onlq one or two things that could be done and that is to set up the <br /> plan lines or install limited parking. Councilman Stout moved that this be deferred <br /> for two weeks, seconded by Councilman Weiss. The Mayor asked that the Poliee Depart- <br /> ment talk to the people on Jefferson Avenue. Fire Chief Lodi spoke about the traffic <br /> problem that occured when there was a fire during the peak traffic hours and asked <br /> that the Council give this matter serious consideration. Councilman 4�eymouth amended <br /> the motion that the Council approve the recommendation if the Traffic Corarnittee finds <br /> the people a�e in favor of the plan. It was decided that this amendment was out of <br /> order. The motion lost on roll call with Councilmen Gran�er, Weymouth and Mayor Roger <br /> votin� NO and Councilmen Herkner and Spillers being noted absent. ° <br /> Councilman Granger moved that the City Attorney be authorized to bring in an ordinanee, � <br /> � <br /> seconded by Councilman Weymouth. Councilman Weiss amended the motion that the City � <br /> Y <br /> Attorney bring in the ordinance at the next meeting and furt�her that the notices be <br /> published in the paper a.t�d advising the public that �ueh an ordinance will be intro- <br /> duced at the next mesting. This was followed by discussion. The m aker of the motion <br /> agreed to add that the ordinance be brought in next week. The motion carried with ��� <br /> Councilman Stout voting NO �� <br /> . <br /> Councilman Granger moved that the City Manager proceed with the sketch of the pl.acque for <br /> the Police Building, seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried. <br /> Councilman �►eiss read the following prepared statement: <br /> "I have received several enquires relative to a proposed service station at Qak Knoll <br /> and Canyon Road that �iias been granted a use permit by the county authorities. <br /> .w...._ ._. ._... � <br />
