HOWELL, HEAL^1 H DEP AR TTIT, REGARD I NG SER VI C, S TATI ON UNDEK C ON S TRU C T I ON AT OAK KN OLL
AND CANYON ROAD. The clerk read the following report submitted by Mr. Howell:
In reviewin the minutes of the regular meetin of the Redwood City City ouncil
, for Jul l, 195? it was noted that ouncilman weiss had submitted some specific
questions regarding a service station that is being constructed at IJak Knoll and
Canyon noads in the gnerald Lake area. I believe that I might submit data that
will clarify some of these questions.
1. `rhe owners of this property filed plication for rezoning of the property
with the County Planning ommission in November, 1956• The Pirst hearing
on this rezoning application was on Deember 19, 1956. The County Planning
,-- Commission sent out notices to twenty property owners in the surrounding
area and also notified the Redaood City Planning Commission of this proposed
rezoning. At the January 16th meeting of the 1'lanning Corrnmission this
application was denied. The owners ap:eared before the Honorable Board of
, Supervisors and at their hearing, the Planning Commissions action was over-
ruled and the property rezoned. Thia action in rezoning the property would
now permit the construction of a fillin sation. The percolation tests at
the sit were unsatisfactory. These findings were the same as has resulted
from a previous study at another location at this same road unction when
-- another oil company desired to build a service station. In view of our
findings, this department asked the Tidewater Associated Oil Comp any to sub-
mit their plana along with certain stipulations regarding the proposed oper-
ation and as a result of these a;reements the health department approved the
issuance of their building permit on tipril 22, 1957•
As long as water service to this property existed, there was no legal way
of prcventing the oil compahy from continuing to use this water servide.
2. The oil comp any indicated that tey would apply immediately for annexation
to Redwood City and would diligently pursue the same.
3. That until such time as it was possible to obtain an adequate sewer connection,
there would be no cars washed at the station. They agreed that should the '
septic tank not operate satisfactorily, they would shut down operations.
.,-a .,-. ;-.,, . ..,,...M
...,,., -
