CITY rTGINEER REGARDING WATER STORAGE IN PARM HILL AREA. The Clerk read the following
Seports, one from the City ngineer and one from the Water Superintendent:
4'e have been advised by the Water Superintendent that for the last 62 cansecutive
days, from May 30 to July 31, the daily water consumption in Farm Hill No. 1 and No. 2
subdivisions has been considerably in excess of the 10,000 gallon w ater storage tank '
installed above Emerald Hill Road. During this two-month period the daily water i
usage has averaged 225,000 gallons a day.
The maximum daily water usage occured June 22, 1957, when 335,000 gallons of water was i
pumped to serve these two subdivisions, which quantity is more than twice the maximum
storae now provided. It is reasonable to assume that when continued periods of '
warmer weather occur, these figures will be greatly increased.
Based upon this information, it would seem reaan able to require that suPficient
I
storage tanks be constructed by the subdivider to provide at least one da s storage, i
and that the additional 60 horsepower motor and pump, originally planned for the
Cr.rson Pumping Station to supply Frm Hill No. 1 and No. 2 be installed as soon as
possible, and before any extension of the wter system is made into the proposed
Farm Hill No. ! subdivision. At the present time the exigting 25 horsepower purap
alone can not supply the maximum demand, and the existing standby 75 horsepower pump
, must continually cut in to handle the increased load.
The Carson Pumping Station was originally desined to include all three pumps, but the
instal.lation of the 60 horsepower pump was permitted to be deferred until a more
accurate determin ation could be made of the w ater demands of the area. !
!
The entire Farrn Hill subdivision area is dependent upon the Carson Pumpin Station, i
and can not receive service from existing storage facilities in the Emerald Lake ',
area. As Farm Hill Na. 3, 4 and 5, and probably more uni ts, will be re oorded in the
near future, we feel justifisd in requsstin Council support of our recommendation '
that additional storage above that now proposed, be cortructed by the subdivider '
before additional connections are allawed.
To:- Mr. Glenn M. Jain, City Engineer
From: H. L. inter, Water Superintendent
Re: Farm Hill No. 1 & No. 2 Water Storage Tanks
Reference is hereby made to our letter of June 17, 1957, relative to the above
subect.
- At the present time, our records indicate that the average daily consumption in Farm '
" Hill No. 1 and No. 2 is approximately 225,000 gallons, with one peak day reaching '
335s000 gallons. This daily consumption is far in excess of the maximum storage and ',
woulci permit no provisions f'or f ire flow in the event of pump or pcxaer failure. '
I t is my rdcommendation that consideration be given to the increasing of the present
storage capacity to approximately 500,000 gallons through the installation of an
addition al storage reservoir at the present site. Any future development on up the ,
hill should have additionai torage to adequ ately supply the proposed subdivisian.
As mentioned in my June 17 letter, the installation of the 60 h.p. motor originally
planned, and the replacement of the Citys concrete drainage pipe which was removed
during the Oddstad Homes construction activities, should be installed as soon as
possible.
This was followed by discussion in regard to whether or not there would be any new
sub divisions in this area and the possible water storage. The Mayor asked Mr. Jain '
if they could hold this up for a study meetin on Lednesday niht. Councilman Herkner '
- was of the opinion triat the City Engineer should contact Mr. Oddstad immediately and
then bring his findings to the study meeting on Wednesday. This was f'ollowed by
