He quoted the f ollowing paragraph:
The voice of local goverruaent is being heard plain],y and directly at the nationa_ level in support of these
federal aid programs for sewage for urban renewal and for rvater supply through the Ame.rican II[unicipal
Association and the nati_onal oranization of counties. It needs to be supplemented and s trengthened pom
the grass roots directly to the Governors and to t he memkers of the Congress. These are good programs
being well directed rith a minimum of federal contral and a maximum of state and local r esponsibility. It is
not enc7ugh that the American Affunicipal Congress meeting in San F rancisco the first of next month will undoubt—
edly reaffirm its position — the members of Congress must hear from home or these reasonable and effective
federal aid programs in fields which are of national as well as local interest, will be aban@oned.
Councilman Weiss moved that the City Ianager, in co?.l.aborationwith the City Attorney be requested to sub—
mit a `arief on the status of Federal Grant—in—Aid Program together with the draft of a suitable resolution
for Council consideration seconded by Cour.cilman Stout and. ca rried.
Councilman Stout maved tht the meeting be adjourned, seconded bT Council.ran Herkner and carried.
