The affidavits of mailing and posting were <br /> ordered filed. The Clerk read letters of protest from David E. Carlyle, 139 Hilltop Drive; Robert . <br /> A. Webber, 404 Eaton Avenue; John W. & Helne D. McCune, 3511 Eaton Avenue; Ruth E. Sawyer, 102 <br /> Hilltop Drive; and Mr. & Mrs. C. F. Sager, 129 Hilltop Drive. The above letters were read one at <br /> a time and answered verbally by the City Engineer. After the reading of the letters there was a very <br /> lengthy discussion in regard to the system of spreading the assessment. Councilman Spillers moved ,,. <br /> that the public hearing be closed, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. <br /> Councilman Spillers moved to overrule the protests, seconded by Councilman Granger. Councilman <br /> Herkner asked that the City Engineer give a written reply to all the letters. This was included in <br /> the motion. Councilman Stout wanted to know if anything would be solved by holding this matter <br /> up for one week. City Engineer Jain stated that if this was held over they would probably have to <br /> ..r <br /> make another assessment spread and the charge would be greater and the Council would have to hold <br /> another public hearing. The motion carried. <br /> Councilman Spillers offered RESOLUTION 2179 CONFIRMING ASSESSMENTS AND ASSESSMENT DIAGRAM HILLTOP <br /> DRIVE IMPROVEMEENTS (Eaton Avenue to Alameda de las Pulgas) and moved its adoption, seconded by <br /> Councilman Herkner and carried on roll call. <br /> The Clerk read the letter of the City Engineer wherein he recommended that these improvements be <br />
