Councilman Spillers moved to accept the recommendation of the City Engineer, <br /> seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br /> COLLINS OUTDOOR ADVERTISING, INC., REQUEST PERMIT TO ERECT SIGN ON ELY MOTORS. Notice of mailing was ordered <br /> filed. The Clerk read the letter from the Collins company wherein they requested permission to erect <br /> rm: a 12' x 48' painted bulletin on fire wall of the Leonard Ely Plymouth Motor Company, 346 El Camino Real. <br /> The City Attorney briefed the proceeding action taken by the Planning Commission and stated that the <br /> Planning Commission had turned down the request because of the area and size of sign. <br /> Mr. Ely addressed the Council and explained what he wanted to do and how the sign would be erected. The <br /> sign would not stick out from the building. This was followed by discussion as to whether or not this was <br /> (:: a ,billboard or a house sign. Councilman Spillers moved that the public hearing be closed, seconded by <br /> Councilman Weiss and carried. <br /> Councilman Spillers moved that the permit be granted, seconded by Councilman Stout. Councilman Herkner <br /> wanted to know if the Engineer and Building Departments approved the erection of the sign. He was informed <br /> that it would be checked when the building permit was issued. The motion carried on roll call with Council- <br /> man Granger and Mayor Royer voting NO. <br /> PERSONAL APPEARANCE, JOHN BARKOW, REPRESENTATIVE OF THE EXCHANGE CLUB, REGARDING NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION WEEK. <br /> Mr. Barkow asked that the Council and Mayor proclaim February 10th through 16th, 1957 as "Crime Prevention <br /> Week" in Redwood City. Councilman Stout moved to proclaim February 10th through the 16th as National Crime <br /> Prevention Week, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. <br /> CITY ATTORNEY REPORT REGARDING POLICE BUILDING CONTRACT. The City Attorney stated that Mr. Greenbach had with- <br /> drawn his letter and asked that the matter be dropped from the agenda. <br /> 's SIDEWALK COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS. Councilman Stout reported that <br /> the committee has handled 38 requests for extensions. The motion carried. <br /> Councilman Granger stated that he was still of the opinion that the property of Hallett, Currie and Dematteis <br /> should all be given the same date for an extension and if the work isn't complete at that time then have <br /> the work done all at once. This also included the A y er's property. Councilman Granger moved that these <br /> three pieces of property be considered by the Committee for an extension of time to the same date, seconded <br /> by Councilman Spillers. This w as followed by discussion after which the motion carried with Councilmen <br /> Herkner, Stout and Weiss voting No. Councilman Spillers moved that the Council authorizes the City Engineer <br /> r.. to put in the sidewalk at the park at Main and Elm Streets, seconded by Councilman Granger (sidewalk to <br /> Loot be put in on Main Street only). Councilman Herkner asked that they add to the motion that this work be <br /> cone if the City Engineer deems it necessary. This was included in the motion which carried. <br /> COMMITTEE REPORT ON REQUEST FOR INCREASE IN TAX RATES. The Committee submitted a report giving the percentage <br /> of increase in costs to operate the taxis and in view of their findings they recommended that the rate <br /> increase be granted as requested, and that the City Attorney prepare the necessary amendment to the ordinance. <br /> Councilman Granger moved to accept the recommendation of the committee, seconded by Councilman Reiss. <br />
