CITY ENGINEER REGARDING PROPOSED LIGHTING, EL CAMINO REAL AND BROADWAY. The Clerk read the following report
submitted by the City Engineer:
At a recent meeting of the City Council, it was suggested that the present lighting
at the intersection of El Camino Real and Broadway be improved by changing the present
four (4) 10,000 lumen electroliers at this location to 20,000 lumen mercury vapor lamps. '
This will involve the changing of the two (2) State owned and one (1) City owned
electroliers, and one (1) P. G. & E. Company overhead luminaire. We have contacted the
State Highway Department who have tentatively agreed to pay one-half the cost of the
improvement to their two (2) electroliers at the northeast and southwest corners
'respectively.
Our estimate, a copy of which is attached, indicated that this work can be done
for approximately $321.00, of which the State shore would be approximately $170.00.
It':is our understanding that there will be no charge made by the P. G. & E. Company
for conversion of their single overhead luminarire. The additional cost of power to
the City will be approximately $20.40 per year.
It is our recommendation that this improvement be authorized by the City Council
so that we can complete negotiations with the State Highway Department for their
.,., share of the costs. The matter of removal of the existing obsolete type ornamental
standards could be deferred to a later date after the improved conditions have been
observed and further studies made.
Glenn M. Jain
Councilman Granger mowed approval of the recommendation, seconded by CouncilmanHerkner. Councilman
Granger wanted to know if the light would be installed on the state pole or were they going to leave it on
the P. G. & E. pole.
