6 <br /> There will be an increase in the garbage rates because the Garbage companies can no longer feed raw <br /> garbage to hogs. This will mean approximately a 25¢ increase in the garbage rates. <br /> The present rates in Redwood City for garbage is: <br /> 1 to 15 gallon containers $.65 <br /> 16 to 25 gallon containers .97 <br /> 26 to 32 gallon containers 1,30 <br /> The proposed rates would be as follows: <br /> 1 to 15 gallon containers $1.00 <br /> 16 to 25 gallon containers 1.25 <br /> 26 to 32 gallon containers 1.50 <br /> over 32 gallons at 141 cents per gallon of volume <br /> Councilman Herkner presented the Clerk with a copy of the audit report of the San Mateo Scavenger Co., <br /> Inc., dated October 30, 1956. 0-44 <br /> These rates would not go into effect until July 1st if Belmont ceases burning at that time. This <br /> was followed by discussion. Councilman Herkner stated that these rates were based on a 20 year <br /> basis, and these rates would be in addition to the money raised by the County taxes for the disposal <br /> district. <br /> Councilman Spillers moved that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary ordinance in <br /> accordance with the Committee report, seconded by Councilman Weymouth. Mr. Quinn asked about an <br /> individual taking rubbish to the dumps. Councilman Herkner stated that this could still be done, <br /> however, there would be a nominal charge. This was followed by discussion after which the motion <br /> carried. <br /> Councilman Spillers asked permission to leave the meeting. Permission was granted and Councilman <br /> Spillers left the meeting at 10:05 P.M. <br /> CITY ENGINEER REGARDING COMPLETION OF SLOPING NORTH LEVEE, MARINE HARBOR. The Clerk read the letter <br /> wherein the City Engineer called attention to the fact that Mr. J. 0. Archibald donated to the City <br /> the use of his personnel and equipment for additional work valued at $376.25. It was his suggestion <br /> that Mr. Archibald be sent a letter of appreciation for his contribution to this project. Councilman <br /> Stout moved that a letter be appreciation be sent to Mr. Archibald, seconded by Councilman Weymouth <br /> and carried. <br /> CITY MANAGER REPORT ON STREETS AND HIGHWAY MASTER PLAN. The Clerk reed the letter of the City Manager <br /> I _ <br /> wherein he referred to a letter submitted by the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission's <br /> letter reads as follows: <br /> The Redwood City Planning Commission has completed studies of the Street and Highway <br /> Plan and hope to hold public hearings within a month or six weeks. They have held - <br /> numerous study meetings on the Plan and wish to study priorities on setting Plan Lines <br /> and construction at an additional study meeting prior to such hearings. <br /> As to the Whipple Avenue and El Camino Real intersection, the Planning Commission <br /> still feels that a portion of the Fox Shoppe property should be purchased to eliminate the <br /> existing job, which is one of the City's greatest traffic problems. <br /> Councilman Weiss was of the opinion that they should give the matter of Whipple Avenue proper study. <br /> He suggested that the matter of plan lines for Whipple Avenue be taken up at a study meeting and <br /> he so moved, seconded by Councilman Stout. Councilman Granger stated that the Council voted to <br /> abandon the Plan Lines on Whipple Avenue and he did not think they had to reconsider the matter. <br /> This was followed by discussion. The motion lost on roll call with Councilmen Granger, Herkner, <br /> Weymouth and Mayor Royer voting NO. Councilman Spillers was noted absent. Councilman Granger moved <br /> to have a committee appointed to study the means of obtaining money to purchase the property at the <br /> corner of lines. The motion lost for lack of a second. Police Cheif Faulstich recommended that <br /> they contact the State Highway Department and ask them to make another study. Councilman Weiss <br /> , moved that a letter be sent to the State Highway people and ask that they make a further study-on <br />
