I. Deny application to file late claim for: Charles Watts (102-05)
MINUTE ORDER NO. 93-121
----------------------------------¡--"""i'F-,:-,""-------------------------------------
D. This item removed from the Consent Calendar by Councilman Sanfilipo for
discussion at this time. (702-03)
Purchase of MacIntosh Computers, printers, scanner and associated software
to Computer Selection of Redwood City, California in the amount of
$14,682.34. (102-03)
REPORT: Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, June 3, 1993
Park and Recreation Superintendent Hartman and Assistant Recreation Center
Supervisor Wilkman presented the staff report; described how and why these
computers were needed; provided a description of the hardware and software
and what could be accomplished, including desk top publishing; and described
source of funding. Superintendent Hartman introduced the two
representatives from Computer Selections, Craig Jeung and Mike Batsford.
City Manager Everett and Data Services Manager Gipe described the general
computer policy established by staff and explained that the City will soon
eliminate word processing capability on its mini-mainframe, thereby
necessitating purchase of personal computers by all departments. Mr. Gipe
explained that there would always be a host computer to allow E-Mail,
networking and data processing services. Mr. Everett advised that the
mini-mainframe word processing capability had served the City well, but now
was out of date and could no longer provide the services required by the
departments to become more productive.
In response to Council questions, Superintendent Hartman described the
number of projects scheduled for the most expensive MacIntosh and the time
constraints in both Redevelopment and Parks and Recreation that work against
sharing computers at different sites with heavy work loads.
Councilwoman La Berge described her first hand experience with the time
consuming process of publishing newsletters and other schedules and advised
there would be a need for separate hardware.
Councilman Sanfilipo asked staff to provide a detailed, citywide computer
policy, listing what computer hardware and software the departments want
and need, and how those acquisitions would be financed.
MEMO 6/22/93
TITLE READ.
