`/' '
I
REPRT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Councii
From the City Clerk and City Attorney
August 9, 2004
Subject
Certification of Results of Referendum Petition Against Ordinance 1130-332 adopted by
the Redwood City Council on June 28, 2004
Recommendation
By motion, accept City Clerk's certification of the referendum petition.
Background
On July 27, 2004, the City Clerk accepted for filing a referendum petition to repeal Zoning
Ordinance No. 1130-332 that was determined to be in proper form and contained at least
the requisite number of signatures (3209). On July 28, 2004, the petition was delivered to
the Elections Manager of San Mateo County for verification of signatures. On August 2,
2004, the Chief Elections Official of the County certed that the petition contained 3633
sufficient signatures. Because the petition is valid as to form, contains a sufficient number
of valid signatures, and was timely filed, it has been certified as sufficient. In accordance
with Elections Code section 9114, the elections official (City Clerk) must certify the results
of the examination to the City Council at its next regular meeting.
A Special Council meeting was called for August 5 at 5:30 p.m. to consider action
regarding the petition. At the time of the preparation of this report and the August 9, 2004
City Council agenda, any Council action or direction from the August 5, 2004 Special
Council meeting is not yet known. A supplemental report will be prepared and submitted
prior to the August 9 Council meeting should any new information or direction from Council
result from the August 5 Special meeting.
, J J .
Patricia Howe ' Stan 'amam o
City Clerk City ttomey
Attachment
City Clerk Certification of Referendum Petition
County Referendum Petition Certification
_. . ... _.._ . . _. .
