Dr. Showen
advised that tests indicate the source of gunfire can be tracked to within 10
feet of its origin. In answer to Council questions, Dr. Showen advised that
although tests have been done to determine if the system can distinguish
between gunfire, firecrackers and auto backfires, the data has not been
analyzed and the results are not known. Dr. Showen stated that the Urban
Gunfire Location System could be installed in the southeastern part of Redwood
City and East Palo Alto for $255,000, and additional increments of 2-3 square
miles would cost approximately $20,000 each.
Study Session Minutes
February 7, 1994
MINUTE BOOK NO. 52 Page 2
Page No. 126
