The purpose of this alternate was to preserve
as many parking stalls as possible within this block because of the hardships which parking restrict-
ions would impose on some of the business establishments. This study was completed and referred to
our Headquarters Office Office for their consideration. It has been concluded that its adoption
cannotbe recommended, for the following reasons:
1. It would create an accident potential, due to the sharp reversing alignment required to accomo-
date the left -turn storage lanes.
2. It would involve an increased cost of $3,500. y
i
3. While it would allow four additional parking spaces on the west side, it would eliminate two on
the easterly side, leaving a net gain of only twa spaces.
In our recent telephone conversation, you asked about the possibility ofallowing parking on the
westerly side of the above block during the off-peak hours. This, of course, would require an
ordinance by the City Council of $redwood City. Such an ordinance would have to be approved by this
office, but would be given favorable Consideration on a trial basis, providing that it can be sup-
ported by traffic counts and that a tawnway system would be enforced during the peak period when
parking would be prohibited.
We are working on the plans for the project as described in our previous correspondence and will
recommend appropriation of the State's share of the financing as soon as the preliminary report
is completed.
American National Red Cross regarding the changed policy under which the Red Cross Disaster Committee is
operating in San Mateo County, since the establishment of the Golden Gate Chaptero,
Frederick L.
