Mr. Weeks advised <br /> � that the Council is being asked to approve the concept <br /> and the funds at this time and observed that the matter <br /> will be before Council again at the time of calling for <br /> ' bids. <br /> Discussion followed concernin� the Memorial; the desira- <br /> bility of having such memorials constructed through public <br /> support and subscription; the need for a passive rest area <br /> in the park whether or not a memorial is included; the <br /> i � effort made by the Park and Recreation Commission to <br /> • solicit funds for construction of the Memorial and their <br /> belief that such solicitation might be easier if an ap- <br /> � proved concept of it is available; and the fact that funds <br /> obtained through private solicitation will cover the cost <br /> of plaques, and the City could handle the cost of the <br /> sitting area itself. <br /> i <br /> , MOTION: Councilman Henderson moved, seconded by Council- <br /> man Williams, that Council approve the concept as recom- <br /> mended by staff and authorize the $2,250.00 needed to <br /> assist in the construction of Red Morton Memorial Park. <br /> � The motion carried unanimously by voice vote . <br /> .
