338
; Harr Ja.ckson, attorney for Mobil, advised in response
to ques on t at the negotiations regarding the land
settlement between Mobil and the State were conducted
over an 18-month period which could not be considered
; quick.
;
; Mr. Thurber (see a,bove) then suggested that some Council
members had determined in advance of the public hearing „„,
that they would vote in favor of granting the application
' for rezoning. Council members and City Attorney Schricker
E advised Mr. Thurber of the seriousness of his charge.
Mr. Schricker asked Mr. Thurber the factual basis for
his accusation, and in response to direct question as
to whether or not he had ever heard, at any time, either
directly or indirectly, a Council member indicate how he or
she expected to vote or comment with regard to the sub-
ject application for rezoning. Mr. Thurber replied "No. "
Councilman Henderson asked that the record show that she
advised Mr. Thurber that his statement accusing Council
' members of having formed their opinions before the public
hearing was apparently erroneously based on a preconceived
; notion of his own and that his statement is not supported
by any facts .
A
Mr. Thurber then replied to questions from Council and
' from Mr. Fales. It was suggested to Mr. Thurber tha,t he
attempt to become better informed with regard to back-
t ground and other facts relating to the subject applica-
r tion, although his general interest in his community is ,,,
" commendable.
+ Mr. Saint (see above) suggested that perhaps information `
regarding the extent of Sierra Club participation in the
, land settlement between the State a,nd Mobil could be
; obtained from Joe Carleton, Chairman of the Conservation
Committee of the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club
' in Pa.lo Alto, or from Pat Barrentine of the Committee
for Green Foothills. In response to question, Mr.
Saint acknowledged that in urging that the subject appli-
cation be denied on behalf of the Conserva.tion Committee
of the Redwood City/Woodside chapter of the Sierra Club,
he did not suggest the EIR was inadequate. Mr. Saint
stated he has not had sufficient time to review the
EIR. He acknowledged that the EIR was first supplied
to the Sierra Club in March 1974, at least 38 days be-
fore the first hearing on April 30, and was certified
by the Planning Commission on August 20, 197, becoming
effective 30 days later on September 19.
' Attention wa.s called to the fact that Miss Jessie Vosti
of the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra. Club is identi-
; fied as one who participated in the EIR preparation
tprocess. Mr. Schroeter advised that the Redwood City/
; Woodside Chapter is new and operates out of the Palo '"°'
i Alto of'fice of the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra
` C1ub. °
iHarry Ja.ckson (see above) stated that he had insisted
on behalf of his client, Mobil, that in the land settle-
{ ment negotiations with the State , the Sierra Club,

--
Reg.Mtg.
12/16/74
 '
't

.._.. _ . _ _ ...- --,,-- . . ,--
- a ,4 ..e_, . _.. -
