399 <br /> Mayor Keckley introduced the Councilmen , City personnel present , and GAP <br /> students to the Glee Club and Scout group and briefly noted the functions <br /> and responsibilities of the City Council and the expertise that is avail- <br /> able to the Council . There followed a short question and answer period . <br /> COMMUNITY PROGRESS REPORT . City Manager provided a verbal summary of his <br /> written report which had previously been submitted to Council . Community <br /> Development : Overall building activity continued at a reduced level . <br /> Total valuation for new construction and alterations for the month of <br /> April was $272 , 250 . Significant projects consist of one triplex at 311 <br /> Roble Avenue . Three dwelling units were demolished . <br /> Parks and Recreation : All recruiting for part-time and seasonal personnel <br /> is now centralized in the Personnel Department . Nearly all summer Parks <br /> and Recreation positions were filled . <br /> Recreation building utilization continued at a high level . Last month <br /> 117 groups , involving 3744 persons , made use of the Community Activities <br /> Building and 195 groups and 6612 persons ( including 1935 seniors used the <br /> Veterans Memorial Building . <br /> Construction was proceeding on Peninsula Parkway in Redwood Shores Irriga- <br /> tion lines had been installed and basic ground preparation was being <br /> completed for planting . The parking lot lighting and surface drainage at <br /> the Marina was underway . Light standards will be installed upon their <br /> delivery . The Easter Bowl was refurbished prior to the Sunrise Service , <br /> which drew some 1200 persons on Easter morning . <br /> The Manager thanked the Sequoia High School Key Club who assisted in <br /> cleaning up and preparing Union Cemetery for the coming Memorial Day <br /> Holiday . <br /> A total of 216 inquiries were handled by the volunteer Senior Citizens <br /> Information and Referral Service , now located at 900 Main Street . An <br /> application has been submitted to the California Commission on Aging, <br /> per Council ' s authorization , for the funding of this now volunteer <br /> activity . <br /> Public Works : The Downtown traffic improvement plans , consisting <br /> principally of the ( 1 ) Broadway-Marshall-Arguello intersection continu- <br /> ing on schedule--plans and specifications are estimated to be submitted <br /> to Council in July ; ( 2 ) Broadway-Spring-Marshall phase of the project <br /> figures in the reconstruction and relocation of the Wells Fargo Bank . <br /> The main parcel of property necessary for the extension has been <br /> acquired .
