406
(b ) Authorization for expenditure and suspension of bidding requirements
for repairs to Police Boat in excess of $2 , 000 . Approval would require
5/7ths affirmative vote of Council . ( Report was submitted to Council . )
(MINUTE ORDER NO . 73-68 )
( c ) Landscaping Pennant Court , Redwood Shores . There was considerable
discussion regarding the priority and extent of landscaping of this particu-
lar project and it was indicated that City was making an inventory of such
projects , listing them in priority .
It was brought out this project was a little different in that it was part
of one of the last projects to be done in Redwood Shores which had been
approved and accepted by the Council in June , 1970 . As activity was being
wound down , the landscaping of this area was simply an oversight . If the
subdivision had never been accepted then the recommendation would have been
to go back and make the developer finish the job . It was pointed out that
perhaps City should keep track of subdivisons and make sure the projects
were completed as shown on plans and specifications . Councilman Henderson
expressed concern as to why City did not have a level of landscaping along
with the listing of landscaping priorities , since there were other areas
that needed attention . City Manager noted that unless the areas were
prominent entrance points to the City they should be minimal or conform to
the surrounding area .
Funds would be available for this particular project from the Streets and
Highway Fund of Redwood Shores .
Staff report indicated this was in response to Councilts directive for
report and recommendation regarding request by Redwood Shores Homeowners '
Association for these improvements , and Staff recommended that the Parks
Division be directed to proceed with landscaping with City forces .
( MINUTE ORDER NO . 73-69 )
( d ) Offer of Mobil Oil Estates , Ltd . RE : Purchase of Motorcycle . ( Report
was submitted to Council . ) It was brought out that this Motorcycle would
be a so-called " dirt bike " to be used in all areas of the corporate limits
of Redwood City where police and fire problems exist and the terrain re-
quires such specialized equipment . These would be operated by trained
personnel for this specific type of motorcycle riding and equipped with the
appropriate safety equipment .
Councilman Norris moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO . 6920 ACCEPTING OFFER OF CON-
TRIBUTION OF $900 FROM MOBIL OIL ESTATES , LTD . ; APPROPRIATING SAID SUM
FROM UNAPPROPRIATED BALANCE OF SPECIAL DEPOSITS FUNDS FOR PURCHASE OF
MOTORCYCLE, seconded by Councilman Leipzig and carried on roll call vote .
5/21/73
Reg . Mtg .
