447
Mr . Robert Costello , 525 Marshall ,
indicated he represented the San Mateo
County Employees Credit Union , who owned
the majority of the block in question ,
and had expressed objections to the re-
zoning . By referring to a projected slide
drawing of the area , he identified the
location of the lot in question, and the
relationship with the adjacent properties
owned by the Credit Union. He indicated
that it was the intention of his clients
to acquire property to enable significant
office type development , consistent with
present zoning ordinance and with the Down-
town Plan . He pointed out lack of adequate
parking for the type of business proposed .
He felt allowing this to be rezoned would
be counter to the letter and spirit of the
Downtown Plan .
Councilman Williams questioned whether Mr . Costellots clients would object
to controlled use of the lot under present zoning , Mr . Costello responded
that he believed they would , that they did not feel a bar should go in a
neighborhood where there are residences around it , and when there are many
places all over town where space could be rented for a bar ,
Mr . Riggs commented that the dwellings
referred to were substandard to the
requirements in Fire Zone 1 , being con-
structed of wood .
There was considerable discussion concerning parking , following which
Councilman Weymouth moved to close the public hearing , seconded by Councilman
Rhodes and carried ,
Councilman Norris moved to affirm the action of the Planning Commission and
DENY the application to amend the Zoning Map , seconded by Councilman Rhodes
and carried on roll call vote , Councilman Leipzig voting no .
(MINUTE ORDER #73 -85 )
Councilman Henderson suggested that the Chamber of Commerce Commercial and
Industrial Committee might be of assistance to the applicant in relocating
their business .
REPORT OF BID OPENING - Red Morton Community Park , Phase I
Staff report indicated that recommendation was to award the contract to
Palo Alto Landscaping , Inc . , Mountain View , the low bidder in the amount of
$ 127 , 464 . 60 . City Manager advised of certain corrections in the staff report
with respect to funds , i . e . , balance remaining in the 1972 -73 budget for the
project amounted to $ 93 , 281 . 61 , and that surpluses from two projects , Spinas
Park Tennis Court Lighting, $ 5 , 500 , and Stulsaft Park architectural services ,
$2-I- , 000, were available for transfer to this project , so that funds needed
from 1973 -74 budget amounted to $24 , 682 . 99 .
Director of Public Works reviewed the scope of the project which would cover
6/2 5/73
Reg .Mtg .
