470
Councilman Weymouth moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO . 6702 GRANTING EXCEPTION
TO CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF
REDWOOD CITY - SIDNEY AND MARY DE ZORDO , seconded by Councilman Keckley
and carried on roll call vote .
Councilman Williams moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6703 APPROVING PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS FOR RESURFACING OF TENNIS COURTS AT MEZES PARK ; AND
AUTHORIZING CITY CLERK TO CALL FOR BIDS THEREFOR , seconded by Councilman
Rhodes .
Plans and specifications were prepared by Public Works Department in
accordance with request from the Recreation Department , for resurfacing
o f existing tennis courts , including reconstruction of headerboards ,
net posts , strap anchors and areas of damaged paving . Benches and a
paved walkway were added as optional bid items , in the event bids came
in under the estimate . City Manager indicated a subsequent report would
be made after bids are received relative to the optional items (Memo
4- 11 -72 )
Acting Deputy Director of Public Works responded to questions concerning
provision for correcting poor drainage caused by subsidence , indicating
that specifications call for the lower area to be marked out and filled
in , and that reconstruction of the headerboards would help to correct
the drainage problem . It was noted also the courts would have a 2 - color
surface . He also advised that the headerboards were for the purpose of
holding the edge of the pavement , and that the surface would be at higher
e levation than surrounding ground which would help keep rocks and dirt
o ff the courts . There was some discussion concerning directional
placement of the courts so that players are not facing directly into
the sun , and City Manager indicated that future tennis court construction
will take this into consideration .
Motion carried on roll call vote .
Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO . 6704 OF INTENTION TO OBLIGATE
APPORTIONMENT OF CDrTAIN FEDERAL TOPICS PROGRAM FUNDS AND ADVISING
ADMINISTERING AGENCY OF INTENDED ACTIONS , seconded by Councilman
Rhodes .
Under date of. March 23 , 1972 , State Department of Public Works informed
Council of City ' s share of apportionment of California ' s federal TOPICS
funds .
