1
APPROVING REVOCABLE PERMIT FOR INSTALLATION OF IDENTIFICATION SIGN, MARINE
WORLD , seconded by Councilman Leipzig and carried on roll call vote .
Arnold Browning , owner of property at 2066-2070 Broadway , protesting that tenants
had been denied parking and open entrance to their businesses , and requesting
consideration for a proposal to resolve .
A communication from Mr . Browning regarding the problem had been presented
to Council on April 3 , 1972 , and referred to Staff for review and report
back .
Mr . Arnold Browning , 42 De Sabla Road , San Mateo ,
spoke in regard to his request which related to
paved area to the rear of the property . Access
until recently had been by use of a neighboring
property , but with construction of UCB building
this was no longer available . He asked that
entrance from or exit to the street be allowed
by backing either in or out . (His sketch showing
three parking spaces was included in report to
Council , )
Mayor Keckley suggested that if the parking were to be reduced to two spaces ,
this might permit space to turn around to enter or exit without backing .
Mr . Browning advised that he had three tenants , and the space was needed
for parking and for deliveries . It was noted that there was space
provided on Broadway zoned for loading ,
City Manager advised that , as indicated in his report , it was felt that
it was up to Mr . Browning to find a solution , and that in good conscience ,
backing onto the street could not be allowed . He reviewed the efforts made
to try to accommodate Mr . Browning by contacting adjacent property owners .
He indicated that City would be willing to consider any solution Mr .
Browning ' s engineer might have to suggest , Vice -Mayor Henderson saw the
City ' s responsibility as being for safety of traffic , rather than in the
relationship of the property owners , and concurred in the staff ' s recommenda-
tion .
Vice -Mayor Henderson moved to accept Staff report and recommendations , seconded
by Councilman Williams ,
Mr , Joseph Giannoni , 617 W . Hillsdale , San Mateo ,
indicated he was told by the tenants concerned
that the space was needed for deliveries and
loading , rather than for parking .
Request of Wayne McFadden , Attorney for Redwood Shores Homeowners Association ,
Council on May 1st approved request of Mr . McFadden to appear before Council
on a matter of concern to Redwood Shares Homeowners , Mayor Keckley asked
that Mr , McFadden state specifically in introductory remarks his purpose
for the request .
Mr , Wayne A , McFadden , 1700 South El . Camino Real ,
San Mateo , stated that his purpose in appearing
5-8- 72
