48
lots instead of the required 50 feet . Planning Commission at meeting of
May 9 , 1972 unanimously recommended to Council that exception be authorized
based on the finding that exception would not be granting a special
privilege and would be consistent with the surrounding neighborhood , and
subject to certain conditions .
Planning Director advised the parcel was a double - sized piece of property
and what was being proposed by the applicant was to dividie it into two
parcels . Basis for the request for approval of exception was solely on
the requirement for 50 ft . frontage . He noted the unanimous recommendation
by the Planning Commission for approval .
Councilman Weymouth moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6725 GRANTING EXCEPTION TO
CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY -
HARRY VASILAKOS , seconded by Councilman Williams and carried on roll call
vote , Mayor Keckley being noted absent .
APPROVAL OF .FINAL MAP , Redwood Plaza Shopping Center , and authorizing execution
of Improvement Agreement (LONGS DRUG STORES , INC . ) .
Council had approved the Tentative Map on February 7 , 1972 , and authorized
certain exceptions as recommended by the Planning Commission , for property
covering most of the block bounded by Bay Road , Woodside Expressway , Broad -
way and Chestnut Street , except the northeasterly corner of said block ,
in a " CG " (General Commercial ) District . Planning Commission considered
the Final Map as presented at their meeting of March 28 , 1972 , and recom-
mended to Council that it be approved . City Manager noted that copies
of the Planning Commission report of April 3 , along with a report from the
Department of Public Works , had gone forward to Council along with his
covering report dated May 18 , 1972 . Also , a subdivision agreement had been
prepared by tie City Attorney ' s office . It was recommended by staff that
the Final Subdivision Map be approved . City Manager recalled that at
the time the original Tentative Map was before the Planning Commission
they also considered whether there should be a requirement for under -
grounding utilities , and it had been indicated to Council at the time
that Staff did not feel it was in a position to recommend imposing this
requirement , simply because there was no undergrounding program . He
noted that the developer will be paying to underground utilities on the
site , but recommended that decision with respect to Chestnut Street be
deferred until a determination is made as to priorities for streets to be
allocated for undergrounding .
Councilman Rhodes moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6726 APPROVING AND ACCEPTING
FINAL MAP OF REDWOOD PLAZE SHOPPING CENTER SUBDIVISION, REDWOOD CITY
CALIFORNIA , SUBJECT TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS ; APPROVING AND ADOPTING PLANS
AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS THEREOF ; AND APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING
5/22 /72
