393:3 <br /> 2 , Transportation : Resolved that the City of Redwood City authorizes <br /> reduced bus fare for senior citizens who present to the bus driver <br /> a Medicare or Social Security card , or other appropriate evidence . <br /> Councilman Rhodes indicated the Transportation Committee had <br /> considered the question of lower fares for senior citizens , and <br /> a recommendation is proposed to reduce fares from 25¢ to 100 for <br /> everyone in the hope this would increase the number of riders . <br /> If this did not appear feasible , the Committee would then consider <br /> recommendation relative to senior citizens . <br /> 3 . Recreation : Resolved that a large auditorium be constructed for <br /> the use of senior citizens and other groups and that we have a <br /> drop -in center for senior citizens . <br /> Mayor Bury noted there had been a variety of proposals for a <br /> large auditorium and indicated the Fair Oaks Center would have <br /> a certain capability in that respect . <br /> 24 Jobs : Resolved that the City of Redwood City employ a senior <br /> citizen on a full or part -time basis whose duties would include <br /> the continuing study of the problems of senior citizen residents <br /> and assisting City Officials in solving such problems , and would <br /> also include interviewing and counseling senior citizens and/or <br /> referring them to the appropriate city or county agency for any <br /> necessary additional attention ; and that the City of Redwood City <br /> adopt a policy of employing on a part- time basis in appropriate <br /> positions in the various city departments , older persons who are <br /> qualified to perform the duties of the positions involved . <br /> Councilman Rhodes commented that City of San Carlos employed a <br /> part-time senior citizen at $1680 per year , and suggested Redwood <br /> City do the same . Mayor Bury suggested this be referred to Staff , <br /> noting there were budget considerations , job description to be <br /> prepared , etc . He also noted the crossing guard program in which <br /> senior citizens are utilized . <br /> Councilman Petersen moved that the matter be referred to Staff for <br /> recommendation , seconded by Councilman K_eckley , Councilman Henderson <br /> felt the motion was inappropriate and that such matters should be <br /> the prerogative of the City Manager . She recalled that during the <br /> last budget sessions , Council had done everything they could to <br /> minimize the payroll . Councilman Keckley responded that it was not <br /> the spirit of the motion that the City Manager was being asked to <br /> 1 -24-72 <br />
