933 Mr . Thomas R . Daly , 3519 Glenwood Avenue , indicated he was a business neighbor of Mr . Dini , and felt this plan would put them out of business . He felt that a coor- dinated traffic signal system should have been done long ago . He suggested as alter- native to the proposals that left turns at certain intersections should be prohibited , including southbound El Camino Real into Brewster Avenue . His primary concern was eliminating parking on El Camino Real . He suggested coordinating the signals , and doing a three -month study , rather than jump into a million dollar project . Mr . Larry Johnson , 630 El Camino Real , felt that the most important part of the question was whether five o ' clock traffic for the worker to get home should be given more preference that the businessman . He expressed the fear that the State would make it mandatory to eliminate on-street parking . He felt the project was being "pushed " only because funds were available now . Mayor Keckley informed Mr . Johnson that the Council had approved the project in the Capital Improvement Program budget with a number one priority , and reiterated the fact that the State and Federal Governments had moved up the deadline for qualifying for funds . Mr . Edward L . Dick, 1025 El Camino Real , ( old Mill Flower Shop ) advised that when improvement proposal first came up last year, he had contacted merchants up and down El Camino Real and all had opposed elimination of parking . He submitted a petition (marked Exhibit No . 1 for Identification) , containing 44 signatures , stating , "The following persons want it to be known that they are not in favor of either proposal made at the City Council meeting on March 24 , 1971 . The objections are various , but the removal of the parking is of primary concern , " He asked that Council not act too hastily . Mr . Hans van Boldrik, 1304 El Camino Real , (4-Wheel Brake business ) , indicated he knew nothing about the proposals until he received the notice , and reported that where similar changes were made in the highway , near their store in South San Francisco , business dropped , Mr . Ross H . Driscoll , ho Claremont Avneue , ( Operator of Mary ' s Delicatessen) , advised his business was open 20 hours per day , and depended solely on the on-street parking for survival . He suggested Council close the meeting and accept Plan I ( existing) . Mr . Sidney Gelb , 48 Claremont Avenue , (business , Gelb Music Studios ) reported on the length of time he had conducted his business in Redwood City , and that he had recently sold his business to two employees . An important part of the business is rental of instruments , some of which are large and heavy , and he said it would be disastrous if the convenience of on- street parking is eliminated . Mr . Al Davies , 1101 El Camino Real , property owner , said that historically , El Camino Real has been a business street , and felt there were many things that could be done to improve traffic flow and improve the appearance of El Camino , and still fundamentally leave parking as is .
