143
Minutes of Adjourned Regular Meeting
Redwood City Council
May 12 , 1971 7 : 30 P . M .
Municipal Services Center
Meeting called to order at 7 : 35 P . M . by Mayor Bury .
ON ROLL CALL , the following were noted present : Councilmen Mary W. Henderson,
Herbert G . Petersen , Williams C . Rhodes , Ray A . Weymouth , James S . Williams ,
Mayor Robert H . Bury , and Deputy City Clerk Frances I . Reggetts . Councilman
Keckley was noted absent ( entered meeting at 7 :45 P . M . ) . Also noted present
were City Manager pro tem Ken Schroeter , City Controller Jack Ference , Deputy
Police Chief Joel Mansfield , Fire Chief John Keller, City Treasurer-Collector
Harriet Drivon , Chief Building Official Charles Gyselbrecht , Deputy Director
of Public Works Warren Mitchell , Park Superintendent Pasco Balzarini , Construction
Engineer William T . Martin , Civil Engineer III Fred Sennewald , and Stenographer
Evelyn Styler .
Mayor Bury noted the City of Redwood City was a recipient of an Annual Humanitarian
Certificate of Appreciation from Probe Community Center . Councilman Petersen
moved to accept the certificate on behalf of the City , seconded by Councilman
Williams and carried . (MINUTE ORDER #7187 )
Mayor Bury commented on the possibility of holding a Budget Session in Redwood
Shores if it developed that further meetings would be necessary , since an effort
had been made to hold the meetings in various locations in the City .
Mr , Grant Ross , 465 Trident Drive , inquired
concerning the possibility of holding any
items pertaining to Redwood Shores until such
time as a meeting would be held in that area .
It was pointed out that it was not certain another meeting would be necessary ,
and this request would not be feasible because the entire City budget pertained
to Redwood Shores as well as to all areas of the City , although some portions
might pertain more than others to a particular area .
On request of Councilman Petersen , Mayor Bury reopened discussion of
Account 630 - Streets and Storm Drains ,
Councilman Petersen had reservations about deleting the position of Street and
Sewer Superintendent , and indicated a desire for direction by Council for Staff
review of the matter of turning this position over to the Engineering Department .
He suggested an upgrading of the position of Foreman to Assistant Superintendent
might be one solution , noting that the performance by the individual on the job
had been excellent .
( Councilman Keckley entered the meeting at 7 :145 P .M . )
