189 Vice -Mayor Keckley moved to select Mr . James M . Fales , Jr . , as City Manager of the City of Redwood City, at a salary of $27 , 500 per annum , and to authorize preparation of the appropriate documents relative to his appoint- ment , seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried on roll call vote . (MINUTE ORDER #71 -112 ) PUBLIC HEARING, BUDGET for the Fiscal Year , July 1 , 1971-June 30 , 1972 , declared open and affidavit of publication ordered filed . There were no communications . Councilman Henderson commented on the matter of Convention Bureau for which there are funds in the budget , and the question before cities of San Mateo County to separate Tourist and Convention from the Fair . Proposal asked contributions of 12% of the Hotel-Motel tax , which she hoped Council would approve , noting the item is already budgeted and commitment was for 25% of the tax , Budget in future years would be affected if Council would support the concept , on the basis that all cities agree to it . She hoped Council would concur in her continuing with the steering committee ; would support concept of the 12% contribution ; would encourage other cities to agree to the concept , and that Controller prepare memo to bring to Council in early Spring so that County could be notified City would be going to the 12% contri - bution . Vice -Mayor Keckley so moved , seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried . (MINUTE ORDER #71-113 ) Mayor Bury noted there had been a proposal that Redwood City might participate in acquiring a particular home in Redwood City of historical significance for historical or park uses , and while not necessarily suggesting City would want to support this , in the absence of sufficient unbudgeted reserves , or an amount capable of being committed , he felt there might be this or other opportunities that could not be taken advantage of . He recognized the desire not to increase the property tax burden, but felt that it was unrealistic to expect to keep the cost of government down , while everything else is being adversely affected . Councilman Henderson commented with regard to the letter from Fire Chief to City Manager concerning fire equipment for Redwood Shores , She felt that the matter was of such importance that the letter should be directed to DMJM, and the matter reviewed by City Manager as to priorities . (Memo 6-17-71 ) Fire Chief expressed his continuing concern , noting that there has been nothing done as far as he knew relative to acquiring land , although there are preliminary sites for two stations .
