39
William Brodie , 2500 El Camino Real , Palo Alto ,
attorney for Dr . Werner Salinger , requested
continuance of the Public Hearing for one week
because of the absence of two councilmen . He
stated that they preferred that the matter be
heard by a full Council .
Don Seidler , 186 Santa Clara Avenue , Redwood City ,
representing a group of citizens in the unincorporated
area of Woodside Road , objected to continuing the
Public Hearing, stating he could see no reason for
continuance and he felt it should be held as planned .
Art Reisinger , 2628 Delaware Avenue , Redwood City ,
also requested that the Public Hearing proceed ,
stating that several interested citizens were present
and he felt it would be unfair to ask them to return
at another time .
Mayor Bury stated that it had been Council ' s intention to hold the Public
Hearing as scheduled and attempt to settle the matter in a fair and equitable
manner . However , there were only four Councilmen present who could participate
in the discussions , and those present felt that in a matter of this importance
the full Council should be present . He also pointed out that there would be
no further formal notification of the hearing .
Councilman Weymouth moved that the Public Hearing be continued to March 15 , 1971 ,
seconded by Councilman Henderson , and carried on roll call vote , Councilman
Rhodes voting no , Councilman Williams abstaining , and Councilmen Keckley and
Petersen being noted absent . (MINUTE ORDER #71 -31 )
Report and Recommendation of Park and Recreation Commission regarding fee schedule
and administration of Community Activities Building and Veterans Memorial
Building . Report of Park and Recreation Commission had been furnished to
Council .
City Manager noted that the report included no significant changes in fees ,
particularly as it related to Veterans ' groups . He stated that Staff had
taken two of the recommendations under advisement , as to feasibility and cost ,
and would report on these items at budget time . He also noted that Commissioner
Doris Thompson of the Park and Recreation Commission was present to answer any
questions Council might have .
Doris Thompson , Secretary of the Park and Recreation
Commission , advised that the Subcommittee on the Commission
attempted to correlate the Community Activities Building
and the Veterans Memorial Building under one set of rules
and regulations and rental fees , with the exception of
Veterans ' groups . It was also recommended that the size
of the groups be taken into consideration and that perhaps
small groups could use the Conference Room when the larger
room was not needed . She pointed out the success of the
Community Activities Building and felt that the two
buildings could be on the same schedule with equal success .
She stated that with the new scheduling under the control
of the Recreation Department , better use could be made of
the buildings by the Park and Recreation Departments as
well as the people of Redwood City .
