205
Mr. Gomez, speaking for Mr. Ramirez, indicated the applicant
was willing to abide by the Code.
Mr. Raymond F. Christensen, 1009 Dodge Drive, appeared in
opposition to the application, and presented for inspection
by Council several photographs of the site and immediate
surroundings, as well as of the building at its present
location proposed to be moved. He objected on the grounds
that allowing an old dilapidated building to be moved to this
location would serve to reduce the value of adjacent properties
in this relatively new subdivision, and that the comparatively
small investment by the applicant would not have the usual
incentives to maintain the property. He referred to Section in
Ordinance No. 1003 (regulating moving of buildings) which listed
conditions Council may impose.
Mr. Dennis Royer, 15 Nevada Street, owner of property at 1045
Dodge, spoke in opposition to the application, expressing concern
that the quality of the building might not be up to the standards
of other buildings on the block.
Councilman Weymouth moved to close the public hearing, seconded by Councilman
Petersen and carried.
Councilman Petersen moved to DENY the application for permit, seconded by Councilman
Keckley, Councilman Keckley observed that Redwood City has never approved
movement of buildings from another town, although there had been rare instances
of moving buildings from one location to another within the City. Mayor Bury
elaborated on the motion, explaining the purpose was not only to protect adjacent
property values, but also those of the applicant, and noted staff report suggested
Council seek to control quality of neighborhoods by not allowing this type of
development. Motion carried. (MINUTE ORDER #70-89)
Councilman Arnett moved to adopt RESOLUTION N0, 6293 APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFI-
CATIONS FOR THE RODENT CONTROL PROGRAM - 1970-1971; AND AUTHORIZING CITY CLERK
TO CALL FOR BIDS THEREFOR, seconded by Councilman Weymouth,
Plans and specifications had been prepared by the Department of Public Works
to cover drainage channels, sanitary sewers and the Municipal Marina, with the
program expanded this year to include creek shoreline at Redwood Shores. Cost
was estimated at $5,000, to be paid out of General Fund, Marina Fund and Sewer
Rental Fund. In prior years, the cost was under the $2,000 Charter limitation,
and it therefore was unnecessary to contract for the work under formal bid
procedures. The San Mateo County Vector Control Specialist will continue to
assist the City in supervising and inspecting performance and effectiveness
of the program as in the past.
Councilman Keckley questioned the reason for difference between $2,000 and $5,000
and Director of Public Works advised that the total program last year approximated
$4,000, and part of the reason for higher cost in the new program was inclusion
of Redwood Shores. Motion carried on roll call vote, Councilman Henderson being
noted absent.
