222
See correction of June 8, 1970
replacement of Dr. Benioff were invited/ Demolition projects - Petersen
Hotel is in the course of being taken down, and the Tannery property owner
has been officially notified by Chief Building Official. Notice will be
posted,
followed by
a public hearing.
Status
Report -Water Quality
Control
Board -
Staff, with
John Jenks, met on
May 26
with Dilater Quality
Control
staff, with very productive discussions regarding interim measures prior
to completion of Stage 1 of the SCSP. Letter being drafted outlining
steps available to the City and contents of the letter will be submitted
to Council. Council noted newspaper article concerning possibility of
Bay sewerage plants coming under Bay Area Air Pollution Control Board,
relative to emissions of hydrogen sulphides, and suggested Staff be
requested to examine this problem as it relates to proposed improve-
ments. City Manager advised Staff is aware of the problem and it has
been discussed at some length. Participation in San Mateo County Fiesta
by Park Department - In view of the heavy Park Department maintenance
schedule, and vacancies in Park Department personnel, there was concern
whether that Department can participate in the Fiesta this year. The
question is one of priorities and whether this occasion is more important
than catching up with other duties within the City which the Park Depart-
ment needs to do. City Manager advised a report and recommendation would
be made to Council. Hetch-Hetchy right-of-way - Discussions had been held
with San Francisco water Department regarding use of open space and
revocable permit received for use from Glenwood to Oak Knoll, contiguous
to Canyon Road Park. No development is anticipated because of budgetary
limitations, but the permit gives right of control of activities of the
kind which have given cause for concern recently such as motor bikes,
etc. Discussions continuing regarding other Hetch-Hetchy property,
initiated at the request of Park and Recreation Commission. This affords
an excellent opportunity to provide green and open space at little cost.
Acreage costs will be worked out on grading and seeding which can be
maintained by gang mowers at relatively low cost. There were suggestions
from Council concerning potential uses for these areas.
City Manager reported encouraging conversations with Mr. Pinkerton of
FHA regarding meetings last week in Washington, where discussions were
held with technical staff concerning the Corps of Engineers report.
Mr. Gulledge participated and technical staff is preparing a letter
setting forth position for his signature, which will be directed to the
Chairman of the GOA committee
He reported also a discussion by Mayor
