226 <br />and Vice -Mayor with Commissioner Gulledge regarding the Shores problem in <br />which the City volunteered testimony, if necessary, when appearance is <br />made before Congressional subcommittee. In a subsequent conversation <br />with Congressman McCloskey he was informed the question of dike stability <br />had been satisfactorily resolved in talks with Chairman John Monagan, and <br />that he had assured Commr. Gulledge the matter of subsidence was not a <br />major factor in his opinion, since the area not agricultural in nature, <br />subjected to irrigation. His field representative advised that the <br />Congressman will be back in Washington on Wednesday, would review events <br />taking place in his absence and would advise the City. <br />Mayor Bury returned to the subject of the Fiesta participation expressing <br />concern as to awareness of Park and Recreation Commission of the possibilities, <br />since it affected preparations. City Manager advised report could be ready <br />for next Monday, and pointed out the two intervening budget sessions might <br />clarify the picture. The Park Superintendent already had received entry <br />blanks and <br />decision must <br />be made <br />quickly. <br />Mayor Bury asked that the item <br />be placed <br />on the June 8 <br />agenda. <br />(Memo 6-2-70) <br />Concerning adoption of Ordinance amending the Code relating to parking restrictions <br />on Whipple Avenue, introduced the previous week, Mayor Bury advised that he <br />had been contacted by William Royer, a property owner in the area, requesting <br />consideration of adoption be continued, and that Councilman Petersen had <br />indicated willingness to allow the matter to be carried over. <br />Councilman Weymouth moved to continue the matter of adoption of the Ordinance <br />pertaining to parking restrictions on Whipple Avenue to June 15, 1970, <br />seconded by Councilman Henderson, who indicated concern that adjacent <br />property owners had received late notification, and requested notices be <br />reissued. Councilman Arnett, indicated he would abstain as a point of <br />personal privilege on the basis of his opposition in an election campaign <br />to one property owner, noting also he had not been present when the Ordinance <br />was introduced. <br />Mr. Alfred Kimmel, 3000 Brittan Avenue, San <br />Carlos, owner of Kimmel's Furniture, 928 <br />Whipple Avenue, stated approval of continuance, <br />and requested additional study. <br />Mayor Bury advised there would be opportunity for additional comments at <br />that time.
