One further item which is to be considered at the Regular Meeting on <br />June 15th was the Whipple -El Camino Real improvements, which is part of the <br />Capital Improvements. <br />Sales Tax Capital Outlay Fund was discussed, and Councilman Arnett moved to <br />delete appropriation for Fire Station No. 5, Redwood Shores, seconded by <br />Councilman Henderson, and carried. ($54,300) <br />Council also questioned Radio Fire Alarm and Underground Fire Alarms, which <br />it was explained was not intended for Redwood Shores except in a minor amount, <br />but would be involved in the Woodside Road undergrounding project. City Manager <br />added that at the time the item was put in the budget, it was agreed the <br />District would install a fire alarm system in Shores, as in any subdivision, <br />and the City would fund receiving equipment at Fire Station No. 1. Equipment <br />for Shores is radio type equipment, as opposed to the usual call box type, <br />since it was felt necessary because of the distance and other conditions. <br />He stated most new installations in cities are being made in that manner. <br />The amount represents the City's cost for the receiving equipment and none <br />for expense of the system in Redwood Shores. <br />Council returned to the City Beautification allocation, and Councilman <br />Henderson moved to reduce the amount to $10,000, seconded by Councilman <br />Rhodes, Assistant City Manager noted that the Park Department had not added <br />personnel, but that there have been increasingly more areas added, many <br />requiring landscaping improvements, which are funded by Capital Improvements, <br />however, the funds for personnel to service these areas come out of tax rate. <br />Motion carried, Mayor Bury voting no. At the request of Council, City Auditor - <br />Accountant advised the amounts which would be reflected as an increase in <br />Unappropriated balance at the end of the year. <br />Mayor Bury called a five-minute recess at 11:00 A,M, <br />Civic Center (Capital Improvements) <br />City Manager advised City's financial consultant, Bert Betts, and architectural <br />consultants, Donald Haines and Zaven Tatarian, were present and prepared to <br />answer any questions which Council might have in order that a decision might <br />be made on the planning of this project. Various Council reactions expressed <br />as to amount of funds already spent for this proposed project in way of <br />consultants' fees, whether project couldn't be reduced in size or placement <br />to reduce costs projects for full planning, possibility of a staging of <br />phases from a minimum scale, or whether any funds should be held this particular <br />
