331 <br />Motion carried on roll call vote, Councilman Henderson being noted absent, <br />Mayor Bury asked that the first scheduled item proceed at this time, and City Clerk <br />® administered Loyalty Oath to Joe Tanouye, reappointed as Member of the <br />Architectural Committee, and to Dr. Robert Brown, reappointed as Member <br />of the Port Commission, Mr. Mitchell Webber, also reappointed to the Port <br />Commission was not present, Mayor Bury then presented the Certificates of <br />Appointment, expressing appreciation, on behalf of Council, of their fine <br />contribution and for their willingness to continue to serve, <br />Report and recommendations of Franchise Committee. Councilman Rhodes, Chairman, <br />briefly reviewed the report of the Committee resulting from its meeting of <br />July 15th, and the recommendation that surplus property at Middlefield and Pine <br />be sold, rather than converted to park, for the reasons that the property is <br />located near another neighborhood park, while other areas lack this type facility, <br />and because maintenance would be costly, The Committee also recommended that <br />Council take no formal action relative to Southern Pacific intent to revise hours <br />of ticket selling, and that relative to CATV franchise, it would be desirable to <br />meet with representatives of the firm on a regular basis in an effort to improve <br />quality of services to residents, <br />— Councilman Petersen moved to approve the report and implement the recommendations <br />of the Franchise Committee, seconded by Councilman Keckley, and carried, <br />(MINUTE ORDER #70-144) <br />With reference to the Southern Pacific Company's intention to reduce operating <br />periods of its ticket offices, Mayor Bury advised he had been contacted by <br />citizens concerned about Saturday closing, and suggested the Committee review <br />with possibility of asking that Southern Pacific continue serving on Saturday, <br />Councilman Weymouth indicated the Committee felt it was not in a position to <br />offer its views, without additional information, such as usage Redwood City <br />residents make of the service on Saturday, After further discussion, it was <br />suggested that Staff be asked to contact Southern Pacific, City Attorney noted <br />that the City had received notice some time ago as a matter pending before the <br />— Public Utilities Commission, which he indicated is always interested in receiving <br />responses, He advised that any correspondence would be more appropriately directed <br />to the Public Utilities <br />Commission, <br />Council <br />commented <br />briefly, and <br />City Manager <br />indicated that meeting <br />later in the <br />week was <br />scheduled <br />with Southern <br />Pacific on <br />another matter, and if Council desired, the item would be mentioned, <br />
