Mr. Feldman, General Manager of Paul Dibert Motors, advised
they were requesting the extension because it was essential
to their operation to advertise their lease facilities, which
is a good portion of their business, He was concerned that
another conforming sign would not be permitted to replace it,
Mayor Bury assured him there was no objection under the ordinance for another sign,
Mr. Feldman informed Council that within three years every
sign on the facility would be removed and conforming signs
provided on a nationwide basis,
Responding to question by Councilman Petersen as to the nature of the offense, Chief
Building Official advised the sign was in violation in the sense that it was con-
structed of combustible material. Councilman Arnett questioned again the term of
the extension, indicating he would approve if request is for the two month period.
He was advised the objection was to the material, otherwise the sign was not non-
conforming and could remain indefinitely. Councilman Henderson referred to the
request of A&K TV and Appliances, submitted because of medical and financial hard-
ships, and indicated approval of one year extension with recommendation for review
at that time, Councilman Petersen, Member of the Committee, stated the Committee
did not recommend six years, as indicated in the report, but recommended one year
The request was for extension of six years,
Councilman Henderson indicated regarding request of Peter Zama Dodge and Key Lease
Corporation that it be amended to "by the end of one year". Councilman Petersen
advised construction is already beginning on Veterans Blvd, for the new facilities,
Motion carried, (MINUTE ORDER x#70-62)
Mr. M. W. Kehler (A&K TV and Appliances) expressed concern
over what he considered a "retroactive" ordinance affecting
his sign, which he felt was an attractive one, and installed
at considerable expense,
Mayor Bury reviewed the purpose of the ordinance, which was to try to improve the
appearance of the City, and eliminate one business competing with another with a
more prominent sign, Councilman Rosselli pointed out that the extension had been
granted, and that if conditions warrant at the end of the year, additional extension
could be granted,
Councilman Rosselli moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO, 6241 AUTHORIZING FILING OF APPLICATION
FOR NEIGHBORHOOD FACILITIES GRANT UNDER HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT ACT OF 1965,
seconded by Councilman Henderson,
Mayor Bury introduced Mr. Jim Faulk, who expressed appreciation for the Council
decision on the niehgborhood facility, adding the whole community would benefit, _
He described the proposed services, With approval at this meeting, he assured
Council that HUD would work quickly to process the application, so that tangible
evidence of the work would be apparent,
Council discussed the proposed facility, and some concern was expressed for increasing
amounts of requests for funds,
William Floyd, 459 Center St,, responded to a question of
Councilman Petersen relative to size of the area, which he
