4) Port Commissioners described marketing plans including search for
new markets, studying trends, professional journals and conferences,
the need for adjacent land for expansion of Port for maritime uses,
and the determination that what is right for the Port of Redwood
City is a mixture of mostly bulk commodities and short term
transactions for Port facilities. Director Shelton described sister
city relationships as part of long term strategies.
Discussion ensued regarding concerns of Seaport Boulevard tenants
and the plans for development at the end of Seaport Boulevard. The
required EIR will address those concerns.
Council thanked the Port for its quarterly newsletter.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAYOR BUCHAN DECLARED A RECESS AT 9:15 P.M.
MEETING RECONVENED AT 9:25 P.M.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
D. Mr.
Hoffmann suggested another charter review committee be
established to create a list of objectives for the Port to
benefit the City and direct the Port to submit its budget to the
City Council for approval.
5) John Lee, owner of a business in Redwood City, described the
meeting as democracy in action, and asked the Port Commissioners
how the passage of NAFTA would impact Redwood City.
Chairman Smith stated the Port actively pursues trade up and down
the coast now, but the impacts of NAFTA will have to unfold as
time goes by.
Study Session Minutes
September 20, 1993 MINUTE BOOK NO. 51
Page 4 Page No. 533
- - I
