6) Councilmembers stated that some of their so called tough questions came directly from their constituents; that nothing said nor asked was to be construed as critical, but merely seeking what is best for the citizens of Redwood City; and expressed concern that an honest exchange would be construed as non-supportive by some people. I Councilwoman Gasparini, unofficial liaison between the Port Commissioners and the Council, asked for suggestions on how better to serve both constituencies. I Councilwoman La Berge addressed the issues of communication with the public and cancelled meetings. Chairman Smith agreed with Councilmembers that their questions needed to be asked and answered, assured everyone that the Commissioners in no way felt under attack, and stated that they had received many congratulations for their recent accomplishments. Chairman Smith and City/Port Attorney Schricker I explained that meetings had been cancelled for lack of official business to be considered, but were described as being cancelled "due to the lack of a quorum". Both agreed that the wording would be changed as it was misleading. Chairman Smith also assured the Council that the public was never denied the opportunity to speak at Port meetings. Discussion ensued regarding quarterly meetings between the City and the Port, and the suggestion to change the Port meetings to a more convenient time for the public. Chairman Smith agreed to pursue the suggestion of quarterly meetings with the Council, I ~ I and revisit the issue of scheduling Board of Port Commissioners : meetings to maximize attendance by the public.
