---
3o 4
Mr . Ray G . Danehy , 515 Skiff Circle , Redwood City ,
addressed the group from the audience , advising he is
a home owner in Redwood Shores . He commended staff and
Council for the many items discussed and stated he con-
sidered the Shores development outstanding . With respect
to concern over ethnic balance , it was his belief this is
no problem , and all are welcome as neighbors .
Commissioner Nobler expressed the opinion that Redwood Shores would not meet minimum
standards of Federal requirements for low cost housing . However , there are new
construction techniques which should reduce building costs substantially so that
people of moderate means should be able to buy property .
Councilman Arnett agreed with reference to Federal standards . However , this would
aws
not prohibit possibility of public or private participation . Also , there are alter -
native programs at the Federal level to protect the tax structure of the community .
It was sugre ( tte :. that the :-latter be taken ur with the Citizens Committee . and since
Mr . Rogers is Chairman of Citizens Committee of the County Planning Commission , he
would be in a position to assist in this area .
Discussion of comparative costs , custom designed versus conventional street furniture .
City Manager reported on this item , advising that reason for placing on agenda was
to advise of comparative costs of street furniture . He stated staff appreciative
of the time Urban Design Committee has put in , and that they had a great deal to do
with the superlative design of the bridge currently under construction . He reported
concern over costs of custom made street furniture in necessary shelf items . A
report will be available in the near future . Meantime , by action Monday night ,
,
Council had approved interim lic hting in Shores which will serve until mechanics --
worked out for luminaires recommended by the Urban Design Committee . Hope is to
pull costs down to where they are more nearly comparable with so -called shelf items .
Mayor P;urT su Mested a member of the Urban Design Committee could be asked to
appear at the time the report is made .
Councilman Keckley moved to adjourn , seconded b-cr Councilman Rosselli and carried .
Meeting adjourned at 10 : 35 P .
