224 <br /> Officer Kerines O ' Connor, representing Safety Worker ' s <br /> Committee , appeared before the Council to restate offer <br /> to submit information from other cities which had found <br /> self - insurance impractical . <br /> Mayor Bury suggested this report would be of benefit in evaluating the dis - <br /> ability insurance program , and stated that the object is to get the best <br /> program for the benefit of those who may require this type of insurance . <br /> He requested any such available information be submitted , Councilman Arnett <br /> indicated that aside from self - insurance , there is also the possibility of <br /> State Legislation . <br /> Larry Gottschamer , of Fire Department , commented with <br /> reference to State legislation , that typical situation <br /> is not a State -wide problem , Ultimately , State legis - <br /> lation might be the answer , but felt this would be in- <br /> viting loss of local control . He felt it was the re - <br /> sponsibility of the Council to do whatever is justified , <br /> and reported that presently there are two disability <br /> cases existing . Emphasis was on the urgency of taking <br /> action as quickly as possible . He gave examples of <br /> current risks that the Safety Employee faces daily . <br /> Officer O ' Connor appeared again to inform the Council <br /> that on February 28t4, 1969 , a retirement dinner was <br /> being held at the San Mateo Elks Club in honor of <br /> Chief Faulstich and Ted Moudakas , and extended an in- <br /> vitation to the Council members to attend . <br /> Mayor Bury responded but advised that the date in question would fall on the <br /> last Friday of the month , which is the normal meeting date of the Council of <br /> the Council of Mayors . <br /> Mr . O ' Connor then extended the invitation to include <br /> the Council of Mayors . <br /> Councilman Rosselli moved to accept the report of the Committee and request <br /> a report back in 30 days (Agenda - February 10 , 1969 ) seconded by Council - <br /> man Keckley , who stated it was his understanding the Committee will study <br /> feasibility of self - insurance . He believed 30 days would be adequate and <br /> hoped the nature of the motion would be that a maximum of 30 days be allowed <br /> to obtaining actuarial study . Councilman Petersen inquired if the motion <br /> included authority for Staff to obtain actuarial help if needed , and was <br /> assured this is included . Mayor Bury indicated motion should include ex- <br /> peditious action . Motion carried ( MINUTE ORDER #69-2 ) <br /> PUBLIC HEARING , Appeal of Richard E .
