- 2 - <br />operations of City lands and facilities in exchange for naming <br />options. <br />3. SUBMISSION OF NAMING REQUESTS <br />3.1. All naming requests submitted by any member of the public for a new <br />facility or capital project, and renaming requests for an existing facility <br />must be submitted to the City Clerk and contain a detailed justification for <br />the request. <br />3.2. Thereafter, City staff will work with the City Manager, or his or her <br />designee, to develop a report and recommendation using review criteria <br />as detailed in Section 4, below. <br />3.3. The Clerk shall notify the proposer of the date for Council consideration <br />and/or for the subsequent action by City Council. <br />3.4. The City Council shall approve, modify or reject the naming <br />recommendation. If City Council approves the recommendation, Council <br />will direct staff to design a plan, budget, and schedule to implement the <br />naming. <br />4. REVIEW CRITERIA <br />4.1. Establishment of a Name for City-Owned Land and Facilities Not <br />Previously Named <br />a. Potential names shall be considered if reflective of at least one of <br />the following criteria: <br />(i) Geographic location; <br />(ii) Prominent geographic feature or local reference point; <br />(iii) Adjoining subdivision/community; <br />(iv) Historical event; <br />(v) An individual via a donation or sponsorship agreement (see <br />criteria as defined in section b(i) below); <br />(vi) A deceased individual (see criteria as defined in section b(ii) <br />below); <br />(vii) An organization via a donation or sponsorship agreement <br />(see criteria as defined in section b(iii) below). <br /> <br />b. Consideration shall be given to the naming of City-owned land and <br />facilities after an individual or an organization, only if the criteria as <br />outlined below has been met: <br />(i) A living individual has made a donation or sponsorship of a <br />significant level (as determined by the City Manager or his or <br />8.B. - Page 6
