Civic Cultural Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of February 7, 2002 <br /> support received and the $6,000 in scholarships to be awarded at the event <br /> on Sunday, February 10, 2002. <br /> Chairperson Dale arrived at 7:16pm. <br /> John Anagnostou spoke about working with the Center for Steinbeck Studies <br /> to celebrate the 100th anniversary of John Steinbeck at the Fox Theater on <br /> February 27, 2002. He spoke about plans for the event which included an <br /> exhibit on John Steinbeck at the Library. Mr. Anagnostou also spoke about <br /> the upcoming Jackson Browne Concert at the Fox Theater which will donate <br /> 100% of its profits to the Center for Steinbeck Studies. He stated that he is <br /> interested in requesting a grant of $1,000 grant for production and publicity <br /> costs for this event. This item will be placed on the March agenda. <br /> M/S Del Carlo/Kushin: To have the Commission support this event <br /> and encourage Mr. Anagnostou to complete a grant application and <br /> appear at the March meeting to consider the grant request. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ITEM 1 — GRANT REQUEST <br /> G. H. Armour of the Miss Redwood City Scholarship Pageant spoke about her <br /> grant request for $1,000 to help with production costs for the pageant. Ms. <br /> Armor stated that she personally subsidizes $5,000-$7,000 of the pageant <br /> costs. The Commissioners made suggestions on ways to raise additional <br /> funds. <br /> M/S Ball/Britschgi: To grant $1,000 to the Miss Redwood City <br /> Scholarship pageant. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Commissioner Douglas arrived at 8:05pm. <br /> ITEM 2 — COMMISSION STRATEGIC PLAN DISCUSSION <br /> Chairperson Dale reported that he spoke in support of $20,000 in additional <br /> funding at the City Council Priority Setting Session on Saturday, January 26. <br /> This additional funding would increase the per capita cultural spending from <br /> $1.00 to $2.00 per resident. Commissioner Britschgi requested staff prepare <br /> an itemized listing of how the Commission granted funds in the past year. <br /> The Commissioners will finalize this strategic plan at the March meeting. <br /> Commissioner Ball announced that Sequoia High School has cancelled its <br /> music program and she requested that this item also be placed on the March <br /> agenda for further discussion. <br />
