Civic Cultural Commission Page 2 Minutes of October 3, 2002 Britschgi gave a history of the Ledesma paintings the City had purchased in the past. The Commissioners asked the price the Commission paid for the four Ledesmas . It was determined that the Commission paid $325.00 each for the unframed paintings and $200.00 each for matting and framing; a total of $525.00 each. The Commissioners discussed the purchase price and available funds in the Commission's budget. M/S Kushin/Britschgi: To consider the price the Commission paid for previous Ledesma paintings and make an offer of $500.00 for the framed Ledesma to Ms. Carner. Motion passed. Commissioner Britschgi suggested the purchase of the painting be taken from the Public Art account. Commissioner Kushin suggested the painting be hung in Room 1 where the Commission meets. Ms. Carner stated she based her price on a discussion she had with a local artist who was familiar with Ralph Ledesma's work and its re-sale value. She felt that this was one of Mr. Ledesma's better art pieces. M/S Douglas/Kushin: To get a couple of free written appraisals of the Ledesma painting the Commission is considering purchasing. Motion passed. Chairperson Dale stated the Commission would make a final decision at its November meeting. ITEM 2 — SMALL GRANT REQUESTS -Ballet America/Academy of American Ballet Julia Ball-Dugan spoke about their two $1,000.00 grant requests for performances of The Nutcracker at the Fox Theater. One request was for funding for a dress rehearsal performance for children and seniors on December 7; the other was for a 7:00pm evening performance on the same date which would be offered to the general public. Ms. Ball-Dugan provided history of the organization and expressed her desire to bring the ballet school to Redwood City. The Commissioners discussed her two grant proposals and made several suggestions to support the ballet program including being part of the 'Tis the Season Program. M/S Douglas/Britschgi: To grant $1,000.00 to Ballet America/Academy of American Ballet for their two performances at the Fox Theatre on December 7. Motion passed.
