Civic Cultural Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of October 3, 2002 <br /> Britschgi gave a history of the Ledesma paintings the City had purchased in <br /> the past. The Commissioners asked the price the Commission paid for the <br /> four Ledesmas . It was determined that the Commission paid $325.00 each <br /> for the unframed paintings and $200.00 each for matting and framing; a total <br /> of $525.00 each. The Commissioners discussed the purchase price and <br /> available funds in the Commission's budget. <br /> M/S Kushin/Britschgi: To consider the price the Commission paid for <br /> previous Ledesma paintings and make an offer of $500.00 for the <br /> framed Ledesma to Ms. Carner. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Commissioner Britschgi suggested the purchase of the painting be taken from <br /> the Public Art account. Commissioner Kushin suggested the painting be hung <br /> in Room 1 where the Commission meets. <br /> Ms. Carner stated she based her price on a discussion she had with a local <br /> artist who was familiar with Ralph Ledesma's work and its re-sale value. She <br /> felt that this was one of Mr. Ledesma's better art pieces. <br /> M/S Douglas/Kushin: To get a couple of free written appraisals of <br /> the Ledesma painting the Commission is considering purchasing. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Chairperson Dale stated the Commission would make a final decision at its <br /> November meeting. <br /> ITEM 2 — SMALL GRANT REQUESTS <br /> -Ballet America/Academy of American Ballet <br /> Julia Ball-Dugan spoke about their two $1,000.00 grant requests for <br /> performances of The Nutcracker at the Fox Theater. One request was for <br /> funding for a dress rehearsal performance for children and seniors on <br /> December 7; the other was for a 7:00pm evening performance on the same <br /> date which would be offered to the general public. Ms. Ball-Dugan provided <br /> history of the organization and expressed her desire to bring the ballet school <br /> to Redwood City. <br /> The Commissioners discussed her two grant proposals and made several <br /> suggestions to support the ballet program including being part of the 'Tis the <br /> Season Program. <br /> M/S Douglas/Britschgi: To grant $1,000.00 to Ballet <br /> America/Academy of American Ballet for their two performances at <br /> the Fox Theatre on December 7. <br /> Motion passed. <br />
