Civic Cultural Commission Page 3
Minutes of October 3, 2002
ITEM 3 - RESULTS OF SUMMER CONCERT SERIES AND NEIGHBOR
SURVEY AND RECEIVE PUBLIC INPUT
Superintendent Beth reviewed the results of the neighbor survey which had a
67% response rate. He also reviewed the results of the concert survey
provided at the last two summer concerts at Stafford Park. Commissioner
Kushin stated the Concert Sub-Committee tried to address the neighbor
concerns expressed on last year's survey such as garbage, keeping the sound
at a respectable level, and having the Police Department monitor the
concerts.
Barbara Paulozzo of 26 Lowell Street stated she loves the concerts at
Stafford and wants them to remain there. She noted she surveyed six of her
neighbors who were also in favor of leaving the concerts at Stafford.
Rick Orvik of 134 King Street spoke in support of the concerts and felt the
Commission should pay attention to what the majority of the neighbors and
concert attendees want, not just one neighbor.
Lois Mangini of Myrtle Street stated that for the past several years the
concert surveys have indicated a large majority of the people were in support
of the concerts at Stafford and wondered if the Commission needed to
continue this process every year.
Commissioner Britschgi thanked the neighbors for coming this evening and
sharing their thoughts. Commissioner Kushin said the sub-committee would
meet in the next few months to develop a recommendation to bring back to
the Commission and Superintendent Beth asked that it be done by the
January meeting.
ITEM 4 — FRIENDS OF THE CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION
Commissioner Britschgi spoke about having people support the Cultural
Commission on an ad hoc committee such as "Friends of the Civic Cultural
Commission". She suggested this committee bring ideas to the Commission
for further discussion.
M/S Britschgi/Williams: That the Commission form a sub-committee
to draft an outline and define tasks for a "Friends of Civic Cultural
Commission" which would provide support and input to the
Commission.
Motion passed.
Commissioners Britschgi, Williams and Ayala will serve on this sub-
committee.
