Civic Cultural Commission Page 4
Minutes of October 3, 2002
ITEM 5 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS
-Sub-Committee Assignments
-Budget, Update on Request to Council for $30,000
The Commissioners received a copy of a memo dated September 12 to
Council Member Barbara Pierce from Director Centeno regarding the request
for additional funding.
-Children and Schools
Commissioner Watanabe or Commissioner Williams will serve on this sub-
committee.
Cultural Commission Sponsored Events
-Tis the Season
Commissioner Douglas announced the group will be meeting on October 16.
-Summer Concert Series
This item was discussed under Item 3.
-Live in Downtown Music Series
The Commissioners discussed the results of the survey which was given out
at the last concert. Commissioner Douglas reported meeting with Greg St.
Claire regarding this year's concerts who noted that his staff did the lifting
and moving of tables and chairs each week. Commissioner Douglas
suggested that the Commission take over the concerts including the booking
of the groups. He felt that $700.00 and more were spent on the rental of
sound equipment each week and noted that many bands have their own
sound system. Commissioner Britschgi felt that the Live in Downtown
concerts should be turned over to another group, a promoter or perhaps the
new Downtown Manager. It was suggested the sub-committee meet to
discuss the matter further. Tamara Piulle felt the Commission should make
sure that the music at Stafford Park has a different focus than the downtown
concerts. The Downtown Concert sub-committee will consist of
Commissioners Douglas, Kushin and Ayala.
-Public Art
Commissioner Britschgi announced that she, Commissioner Douglas, Planning
Commissioner Tamara Piulle and Council Member Barbara Pierce met to
discuss the draft public art proposal. She reported that Planner Tom
Passanisi has reviewed the draft ordinance and it will be discussed with
developers and the Planning Commission. Secretary Monroe announced the
balance of the Public Art account is $5,000.00.
