She also thanked and
congratulated the Commissioners on their hard work and dedication to a
focused work plan and information gathering.
-Election of Officers
The Commissioners discussed nominations.
M/S L. Walsh/Moran : To reinstate Chairperson Harrison as Chair
and instate Commissioner Grove as Vice Chairperson.
Motion passed.
-Annual Meeting Schedule for 2002
The decision was made to hold either May or September SAC meeting in a
new library at a Redwood City school site. Kathy will contact Mr. Bohl to
arrange. No decision was made regarding whether or not to hold a
December SAC meeting.
Item 2 — Committee Workplan Updates
-Transportation
Manager Griffith spoke on behalf of Commissioner M. Walsh who had
contacted Palo Alto regarding their transportation program, which costs
$500,000 per year. Written materials have been requested from Palo Alto for
more information.
She also reported that a transportation committee meeting was held
regarding workable past plans and routes that might be presented to Council.
Vincent Truscelli has mapped routes available for that purpose.
It was requested that Senior Affairs Commissioners attend the City Council's
Priority Setting Session on January 26, 2002 to promote the need for senior
and intergenerational transportation.
Transportation surveys have been distributed. Responses are slowly coming
in. Petitions will be out on Monday regarding interest in more transportation
in Redwood City. No response has been received regarding a request to
Council for funds to process survey results.
Suggestions were made that volunteers inform and assist senior center
patrons with the surveys and that requests for van rides be recorded.
M/S 7. Borgens/). Harrison: To send an updated memo to City
Council stating the Senior Affairs Commission's priorities for budget.
Motion passed.
-Housing
Commissioner Borgens reported attending a November 27, 2001 meeting in
which different areas of the city were discussed as being possible for new
housing. Proposed transportation changes will affect feasibility of housing in
some areas. Proximity to transportation is a factor for state housing funds. A
non-profit organization willing to be part of a senior housing program
appears ideal.
